SF Offer-QB

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

SF Offer-QB

Postby bigbuck22 » Wed May 16, 2018 1:36 pm

I feel like the answer to this is going to be pretty lopsided, but I just cannot get myself to love this trade offer I received.

Get: Ryan
Give: Tannehill, 1.12

To me, the upgrade to Ryan is all about security and not necessarily fantasy production (unless Ryan has an MVP season again, but I see that as an outlier) as Tannehill put up very similar fantasy production prior to the injury. The 1.12 is a spot where I have been thinking I would land one of the rookie QBs or RBs and be happy with either as either position could stand some new blood.

How does everyone feel about this offer? Team in sig
12 Team Superflex; RB: .25PPC, 1PPR, WR: 1.25PPR, TE:1.5PPR
Start (10) 1QB, 1RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1Superflex, 4FLEX

QB: Watson, Tagovailoa Garopollo, Minshew, J Hall, Winston, S Bennett, T Hill
RB: Hall, Walker, A Jones, K Miller, Ford, Spiller, Tucker
WR: Chase, Lamb, AJ Brown, Aiyuk Ridley, Palmer, Iosivas, RJarrett
TE: McBride, , Engram, Kraft, Otton, Oliver

2023 Champ
2024 1.03, 1.07, 3.01, 3.03
2025 1st 2nd 3rd
2026 2nd 3rd

Even if it's just job security, I think that's worth the 1.12. But I also expect Ryan to be the better fantasy QB.

with ryan your team should contend for a title. QBs are gold in SF as im sure you know. Ryan is worth way more than tannehill and 1.12 imo

8 Team - 2QB/SF/4RB/4WR/2TE
Q: Herbert/Kyler/AR/Carr/Baker/Hooker
R: Bijan/DCook/AJones/Dobbins/White/Bigsby/Roschon
W: GWilson/Olave/Hollywood/Burks/Dotson/Jameson/Pickens/Skyy/WanDale
T: Andrews, Goedert, Gesicki, Henry, Bellinger, Likely, Schoonmaker

My league is essentially 2-12 team leagues that play each other throughout the year but then separate for the playoffs until the super bowl. My team finished 2nd overall last season with Siemian, Brissett, and Foles as my QB2. I've never been one to believe that you need elite QB play to win fantasy championships.
Just for reference to the idea that I mentioned where Tannehill hasn't produced much behind Ryan in fantasy, the following are their fantasy points scored in my league for the past few years.

Ryan-- Tannehill
315. 2013. 299
347. 2014. 335
301. 2015. 316
406. 2016. 235 (13games) pace of 289
284. 2017. ---

Aside from the outlier mvp season, the numbers are pretty close and even favor Tannehill one season.
Why do I feel like the 1.12 pick can get me a RB2 or rookie QB who can eventually produce similar numbers?

Then one of the RBs would likely be available.

The other owner has a good team, 2yrs removed from a championship although not as strong as that season. He would be rolling with Tannehill as his QB2. This owner is very particular about his trade offers and is very on top of thing both in the NFL and in the league (commish). He obviously feels like he also thinks having Tannehill and 1.12 makes him better.

i just had a superflex draft...and i got Josh Allen @ 2.04....
and 7 players starting with 1.10: RoJo, Michel, Freeman, Ridley, Kirk, Moore, Sutton...

Ryan is not a sexy player to own for sure..if you think he will help your team get some money, then take the trade...you could always try to get a 3rd round pick thrown in or something
team 1 -start QB RB 2WR TE 2RB/WR 1WR/TE
qbs=5pt tds wr/te=1 ppr rbs=.5ppr all get .25ppc
Watson, Brady, Mills
Ekeler, Hunt, Carson/Penny, DForeman, Mitchell, CPat, Kyren, Ford, KHarris
Cooper, sutton, Chase, Shepard, Atwell, Schwartz, Wan'Dale, Austin III
Gesicki, Engram, Hooper, Woods
team 2 -start QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex K D
Cousins, Stafford
DH JT, Ekeler, Kylin Hill, Herbert, KHarris, Chandler
Hopkins, Diggs, Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Callaway, DPJ, Robby Anderson, Schwartz, Pierce, Wan'Dale, Doubs
Kelce, Andrews, Jacob Harris

Personally I'd give up the 1.12 for Ryan just for the job security sake, If tannehill continues his injury woes then you're season is automatically done. Ryan isn't a sexy name but he's been solid throughout his career and seems pretty dependable

I like your thought process. It really is down to security, or at least perceived security. It doesn't look like there is much security with the other 3 backup QBs, so it truly is based on comfort. I lean toward being comfortable at QB so I like to know my QBs will be around for a while, but if you feel like you can consistently make moves each year to shore up the position, I can see holding with what you have.

Ryan just signed and will be on the roster for the next 4 seasons at a minimum. Tannehill is really only guaranteed this season if designated as a June 1 cut next season, but maybe he will play another 8 years, who knows? A lot of people discount players as injury prone, but Tannehill really only has one injury in his career, albeit twice due to electing not to surgically repair the tear at first.

After typing this, I am leaning towards holding on to Tannehill and get a solid prospect at 1.12

Thanks...

I feel like Foles has a decent chance with that new contract to be a starter next year, if not this year should there be a camp injury and trade. Never know with Luck and Brissett. McCarron probably starts at least half of the season. Obviously I would prefer to upgrade a bit. I just don't feel like Ryan is the right guy. I think I would prefer to pay a little more to upgrade into a guy like Goff or Cousins, somewhere in that tier.

Does the gap shrink at all if we put a name to 1.12?

Tannehill/Lamar Jackson for Ryan
Tannehill/Allen for Ryan
Tannehill/Penny for Ryan
Tannehill/Freeman for Ryan
Tannehill/Moore for Ryan
