Gurley for 1.01, 1.06 and 1.08

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gurley for 1.01, 1.06 and 1.08

Postby kvothe34 » Fri May 04, 2018 8:56 am

This is for team 2 in sig (.75 ppr, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 2 Flex, 1 TE)

Would you give up Gurley for the 1.01, 1.06 and 1.08? I know some people look at Gurley and Barkley pretty similarly, but I tend to be in the camp that prefers guys who have proven they can play at a high level in the NFL over the lottery aspect of rookie picks. However, while I think my team is in a great place to contend this year, my RB depth is weak after Gurley and McCoy and my team is getting a little on the older side (and I don't have any picks in this draft atm). All this combined makes me think that drafting a 1-3 younger RB's from a good draft class might be beneficial to my team in the long run and having Barkley as one of them might keep the deal from hurting my chances to contend too much.

Thoughts?
Team 1 PPR (1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex)
QB: Wilson, Cousins, Rivers
RB: Mixon, Guice, Duke J, McCoy
WR: Hopkins, Evans, Allen, Hilton, AJ Brown, Crowder, Diontae, Johnson, Sanders
TE: Andrews, Davis

Team 2 .75 PPR (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex, 1 Def)
QB: Garappolo, Flacco
RB: Kamara, Edwards, Pollard
WR: Ridley, Kirk, Pettis, Cambell, Whiteside
TE: Ertz, Davis

Team 3 PPR (1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 3 Flex)
QB: Wilson, Cousins
RB: Cook, Mack, Cohen, Ingram, David Johnson, Bernard, Hill, Smallwood
WR: Allen, Diggs, Hilton, Woods, Jeffrey, Crowder, Harry
TE: Ertz, Olsen, Davis

Team 4 PPR (1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 3 Flex)
QB: Ryan, Cousins, Flacco
RB: Cook, Cohen, Johnson, Ingram
WR: Evans, Cooper, Diggs, Woods, Jeffrey, Jones
TE: Ertz, Thomas

I don't disagree with Goddard often, but I would take the picks. I like the top 8 picks this year a lot.

I'll take the three picks. Barkley isn't too far behind Gurley in value right now, and you should be able to find two quality backs with those picks, or package them up into a higher pick (although I'd just keep them and see what falls to you at that point). Either way, two extra firsts is far more value than the difference between Gurley and Barkley.

I would take the picks for sure. Barkley plus two more picks in the top 8 is just too good to pass up.

Oh man. I still go Gurley, but at least that's a sane offer for him for once. I've seen others of just a 2nd added to Barkley for Gurley

If I had a disaster at RB with only Gurley and basically then waiver wire RBs, I would lean the picks side. Barkley, top 6 RB when I see a solid 3-6 tier of backs in any order. And then K Johnson or Freeman at 8 would be tempting if my WR core and QB was pretty set

Could you get him to add a little more? Maybe a younger QB for you to have behind Brady if he has one as his QB2 or 3 as is?

The consensus seems pretty split so far, which just makes this so much harder haha. He does have some younger QB's (mariota and watson) but his team is in pretty rough shape overall so I don't think he'd be willing to add on more when these 3 picks will likely help restore his team more overall.

This would get me thinking. But I'd prefer the two mid picks to be consolidated into a proven asset. A lot of risk in 3 rookies.

This is a tough one. This is a very solid offer that I'd strongly consider. It comes down to how much you believe in Barkley. If you're confident he'll be a STUD then take the deal and get the extra RB depth. Can potentially get 2 other starting RBs with 1.06 and 1.08.

The more I think about it I think I'd be willing to trade my Gurley share for this. It's the riskier move but I think the potential payoff makes it worth it.

I would trade away Gurley for those picks. The 2 free picks on top seal the deal for me.

I would take the picks here. Barkley isn't two young potential 3-down RBs behind Gurley, but that's what 1.6 and 1.8 will net.

Is this an offer on the table or one you are considering offering? If it's the latter I honestly don't think he will take it, especially if he earned the 1.1 and is rebuilding.

In general given the way you feel about proven players and picks it doesn't really make sense for you to approach a trade like this. Favoring vets over picks more than the consensus means you're not going to get an offer you are happy with when trading away vets for picks. In general you want to be trading against the consensus if you see it differently, not trading against your own viewpoint. If you value proven production more than the consensus than you should be looking to offload your rookie picks to take advantage of what you view as people over valuing them, not overpaying for assets you feel are over valued.

It's not that I go against the consensus, I just don't generally fall into the rookie fever that causes people to overpay for picks at this time of year. I tend to agree with the majority that this is a particularly good draft class though, especially for RB where I need depth, which is the only reason I'm considering it.
