Defensive Player Value

I recently took over a team that needs to get younger but unfortunately I don’t have many picks in this years draft. This is my first IDP league I’m just curious what draft picks I can reasonably expect by trading a few defensive players? Also which position is usually considered the most valuable of the defensive players? Are they all very similar or are LB’s much more valuable then DB’s?

In general IDPs are going to be ranked something like this LB>S>DE>DT>CB where LB are the highest scoring position, and CBs are basically the kickers of IDP. What you can get for them is going to be mostly determined by scoring system and starting requirements.

Yeah, scoring and starting requirements vary a lot from league to league, so it's hard to say with the info provided.

Yeah the scoring rules are everything in IDP. One league I am in gives 3 points per tackle and 3 per sack for lineman. But only 1.5 per sack and tackle for LB. So DE are way more valuable. 6 points per sack and you can see how huge JJ was when he was getting 20 sacks. It’s just like getting 20 tds from an offensive player.

Definitely need to pay attention to scoring. I'm in a few leagues where dl score very little.(less than 5ppg)...you may be able to use name value to get something. In general, lbs are the strength of good def. I don't mind paying to get them, but owners old on to studs I'm my leagues, I tend to carry few and play the wire if not a stud. Db's can typically be claimed as well depending on scoring.

If your looking to sell, I'd look for 2nds and accept 3rd, depending on who your trying to move. For a stud, I ask top 15 pick, but rarely get it. My leagues typically see def start to go in the mid-late 2nd.

But the most important thing is what Defense scores, I've been in highly balanced leagues where JJ led scoring two years in a row and the top 50 had 30 D guys, in there defensive studs are almost as valuable as offensive guys. In other leagues no one breaks ten points except like Mosely, in there I'd rather take a third round flier over most of them.
