The Trade Package that landed me Pick 1.01

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

The Trade Package that landed me Pick 1.01

Postby GOTGDynasty » Fri Apr 20, 2018 11:26 am

My squad is loaded at various positions but weak at RB. I'll have the 5th overall draft pick and two picks in the second round (due to a 2017 trade). The guy with the number one overall pick is weak at every position and conscious that he needs to rebuild. Here is my team:

QBs: Aaron Rodgers, Carson Wentz and Patrick Mahomes. (Limited to 3 QB.)
RB: Joe Mixon, Jay Ajayi, Lamar Miller, Adrian Peterson, James Conner, Peyton Barber, Elijah Maguire, Rod Smith
WR: Odell Beckham, Brandin Cooks, T.Y. Hilton, Alshon Jeffery, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Sammy Watkins, Julian Edelman, Corey Coleman, Josh Doctson, Tyrelle Pryor
TE: Rob Gronkowski, Greg Olsen, George Kittle, Austin Hooper, Adam Sheehan
PK: Matt Bryant
DL: JJ Watt, Carlos Dunlap, Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, Jadeveon Clowney
LB: Deion Jones, Lavonte David, Reuben Foster, Zach Brown
DB: Landon Collins, Keanu Neal, Reshad Jones

We have negotiated a trade in which I receive his number one overall draft pick in exchange for my 9th round pick plus:

Aaron Rodgers
Alshon Jeffery
Julian Edelman
Lamar Miller

Now I'll have five of my picks in the first three rounds of ten rounds: 1.01 (Saquon Barkley), 1.05, 2.05, 2.07 and 3.05.

I'll miss A-Rodge but am comfortable going forward with Wentz and Mahomes and will pick up one of the rookie QBs in this draft in addition to at two first round RBs and best available skill players in the second and third rounds.

Now instead of having to drop ten guys before the 2018 draft I only have to drop six. Feel free to comment on which six you would drop.
QBs: Patrick Mahomes, Trey Lance, Tua Tagovailoa
RB: Jonathan Taylor, Joe Mixon, Saquon Barkley, JK Dobbins, James Conner, Travis Etienne, Tony Pollard, Brian Robinson.
WR: Ja'Marr Chase, A.J. Brown, Deebo Samuel, Jaylen Waddle, Chris Godwin, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool, Chris Olave, Odell Beckham, Josh Palmer
TE: George Kittle, T.J. Hockenson, Taysom Hill, Trey McBride, Isaiah Likely
PK: Nick Folk
(IDPs, start two per week per position):
DL: Danielle Hunter, Myles Garrett, Alex Highsmith, Aidan Hutchinson, Chase Young,
LB: Roquan Smith, C.J. Mosley, Logan Wilson, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoa
DB: Derwin James, Jeremy Chinn, Xavier McKinney, Jalen Pitre

* Ten team league started in 2014.
** 40 player roster, 30 Keepers per season.
*** Red denotes 2022 draft pickups.

That 9th rounder must have been the deal maker lol. That's a pretty good trade for your team.

Based on your roster I'm assuming this is a 10 teamer?

If you go the route of dropping (in place of packaging and trading), my drops would be: AP, T Pryor, Rod Smith, McGuire, Barber and Connor.

If you can make these cuts after the NFL draft, I would want to see what the Steelers and Bucs do in terms of drafting or not drafting a RB before deciding on Connor and Barber. You could also look to trade Connor and Rod Smith the to Bell and Zeke owner for a late round flier in 2019.

My original offer was my third round pick and three players (Rodgers, Miller & Jeffery) but at the last moment I told him if he'd like me to toss in Edelman I'd do it in exchange for sending him the 9th round pick instead of the 3rd. He took it.

Really I view this as giving up rodgers and jeffrey for barkley.. edelman and miller in my mind really don't hold much value. Heck of a deal

You stole 1.1. Wow. If in need of selling 1.1 on a rebuild I would have certainly wanted other young players (one of last year's rookies + ) not a bunch of middling vets and Rogers
Team 1- 10 team ppr, 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flx, 1D, 1K
2022: 1-8
Finishes: 6th, 6th, 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th
QB: Lamar Jackson, Purdy
RB: Bijan, Dobbins, Achane, Charbonnet, Algier, McBride, waiver trash
WR: JSN, QJ, Addison, Dotson, Skyy Moore, Jameson Williams, Hyatt, T Dell, Boutte, Skowronek, Quez Watkins, Greg Dortch, waiver trash
TE: Hockenson, F Monroe, Juwan, Musgrave
D/K: Patriots, Vikings, Saints, Dicker

picks-
2024- 1,1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,4,5,5
2025 1,1,1,2,3,4,5

team 2- 12 team SF, .5PPR, .5TE boost, 1QB, 1SF, 2 RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flex
2022: 8-1
Finishes: 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd :wall:
QB: Ljax, GenoD Jones, Minshew, Dobbs
RB: CMC, Stevenson, A Jones, Chubb, A Mattison, D cook, Perine, Mckinnon,
WR:Tyreek, Diggs, C Kupp, D Adams, Keenan Allen, Lockett, Gallup, A Lazard, Hodgins
TE: Kelce, LaPorta, Irv Smith,
No picks until 2026 5th rounder lol

Drops:
Peterson
Bryant :ewink:

I would look to trade for incremental moves up in the draft if you can't stack picks:
Hooper
Barber
Maguire
Pryor
Smith (to the Elliot owner)

I would also consider moving some of the back end of your IDP bench depending on startlng requirements.

Yes, it will be after the NFL draft (really at the end of preseason) that we draft.

I'm going to hang on to Pryor. He had good chemistry with Josh McCown in Cleveland and put up good numbers in those four games they started together, he could well emerge to become Jets WR1. And hey, it's the Jets! He could even end up as their starting QB yet fielded in fantasy as a WR.

The one I'm troubled about is Rueben Foster, facing trial and an 11 year prison sentence. I don't see how he gets out from under that in San Francisco. So much talent down the drain. He was set to really break out this year.

I might also drop Olivier Vernon depending on how the Giants replace JPP. And have to wait to see if nfl.com continues to define Clowney as a DL - he wouldn't be worth stashing as an LB.

And agreed, yes, alas, it is time to say by to AP.

Good thoughts on shopping Conner and Smith as handicaps. I like the way you think.
