Which bottom tier QB would you prefer to have in a SF league?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Which is safest to pair with the QBs already on my roster?

Which bottom tier QB would you prefer to have in a SF league?

Postby jnappy » Wed Apr 18, 2018 7:01 am

I'm in the middle rounds of a superflex startup, and I'm trying to determine which of the bottom tier QBs is safest? I have Luck, Mahomes, and Rookie pick 1.05 so far, but I want to add one more. Which of these guys would you pair with the two I already have and very likely a rookie QB?

I picked Flacco, but would like to change that to Tannehill, he's still youngish and was looking decent before injury. Tyrod isn't going to keep his job. The Browns will be drafting a top 4 QB, and Taylor will be replaced sooner rather than later.

Tyrod's spot on the "bottom tier" is largely due to the lack of talent he's had around him for basically his entire career. With the Browns' loaded receiving corps and Taylor's mobility I foresee a surprisingly good season for him.

I'm not sure Tyrod is the "safest" in terms of job security (at least past this year) since most expect the Browns to take a QB early, but I do think he's the best QB on that list and the one I'd pick.

Tyrod. Has the weapons, and when he has a couple good games I'd look to flip him before CLE hands the reins over to a rookie QB next year.

Tyrod will do the best early (while you let Luck shake off some rust), and will likely find another gig next season. He's the clear pick. Everyone else is either old, or will break if a light wind gusts thru the stadium.

Tyrod. I believe he will play well for much or all of 2018 in CLE and get a starter contract somewhere else in 2019.

Completely agree. I think everyone is worried about Tyrod's long term future with the Browns, but he's surrounded by the most talent he's ever had this year and he'll get another job next year and beyond when the Browns have someone ready to take the reins.

I don't get it about Taylor.

If he is really that good, then Buffalo would not have let him go.
If he is really that good, then they would have gotten far more than a third-round pick for him.
If he is really that good, then Cleveland would not use either of its top-4 picks on a QB.

We'll know for sure in eight days. But, put all those together, and Taylor now has the journeyman-at-best label stuck to him. Think Ryan Fitzpatrick or Josh McCown "safe". I'll stick with Flacco by OP's metric for his QB target.

Context matters though. None of the QB's listed by the OP are "really that good," but Taylor's age, past production and current situation make him the right choice imo. Just because Taylor likely won't be on the Browns next year doesn't mean he's an unsafe choice and i'd argue he's still the safest of the bunch.

I voted Tyrod. While he isn't the safest, he's got the highest fantasy ceiling in my opinion. If you want just security at the position, then Flacco is your best bet but he won't give you a high ceiling at the position
Team 1: 12 Team PPR IDP League: Start 1 QB 2 RB 3 WR 2TE 2FLEX 2 DL 2 LB 2 DB 2 FLEX 40 Man Rosters
QB: Rodgers, Winston, Tyrod, Lamar Jackson

DL: Bosa, J.J. Watt, Danielle Hunter, Dante Fowler
LB: Alec Olgletree, Sean Lee, Raekwon McMillian, Darius Leonard,

With all fairness, his coach thought Peterman was better; only to start him and for it to blow up in their face. I would not use the Bills evaluating to accurately assess a player.

I will also believe Browns draft a QB top 4 when it happens.

"Safest" is Flacco or Tannehill
"Best" is Tyrod by a big margin.

To answer Moishe's questions... Because ownership and management in Buffalo is absolutely clueless. They just went to the playoffs for the first time in ages. Chances of them getting there with McCarron or Peterman...Zero. I'm not even giving them the "one in a million" shot.

I'm thrilled to have him at QB this season in Cleveland and wouldn't be surprised if the Browns win more games this season than the Bills.

From a fantasy perspective, Tyrod was a top 10 QB in both 2015 and 2016. With the weapons he has in Cleveland, I expect a return there this season.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.
