Superflex startup (watch me draft) *updated into 11th*

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Superflex startup (watch me draft) *updated into 11th*

Postby jnappy » Sun Apr 15, 2018 5:12 pm

So I am in the middle of a new 12-team SF startup. It's pretty basic scoring (1.0 PPR for RB and WR, 1.5 for TE, 4 pt. passing TD), and we start 1-2QB, 2-5RB, 3-6WR, 1-2TE. I'd love any thoughts you have on what I should do or how I've done so far. I'll update as it goes along.

My team:
QB: Luck, Mahomes
RB: MG3
WR: AB, DT, Woods, MWilliams
TE: Gronk
2018 Picks: 1.05
2019 Picks: 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

1.01: OBJ
1.02: Nuk
1.03: Gurley
1.04: Zeke
1.05: DJ
1.06: Rookie Pick 1.01

1.07: AB
I decided to go AB here because I think he's the biggest difference maker at WR just because of how consistent he is. There are more RBs that I like this year than I can remember in recent memory, and every other superflex I'm in I've started off QB-QB and wanted to try a slightly different strategy. Also, since none had gone yet, I was hoping one of my tier 1 QBs (ARod, Russ, Luck) would still be available when I picked again.

1.08: Bell
1.09: MT
1.10: Wentz
1.11: Russ
1.12: Kamara
2.01: Evans
2.02: ARod
2.03: Hunt
2.04: 4Net
2.05: Watson

2.06: Luck
I was pumped to get Luck here, so this was pretty much a no brainer. The injury *should* be over, and he's young, with a new coaching staff, and still has TY. He should be a good QB in the NFL for a long time.

2.07: Cam
2.08: Cook
2.09: Garoppolo
2.10: CMC
2.11: KA
2.12: Kirk
3.01: Mariota
3.02: Adams
3.03: Julio
3.04: Goff
3.05: Stafford
3.06: Jameis

3.07: MG
The small run of QBs there before my pick started to worry me a bit, but MG was staring me in the face. He's a good young back on an excellent offense, and he's been pretty darn consistent the past two seasons. I'll take the dip in value, and buy-low on the top 5 RB upside.

3.08: Cooper
3.09: AJG
3.10: Mixon
3.11: Rookie Pick 1.02
3.12: Brady
4.01: Dak
4.02: Tyreek
4.03: Ertz
4.04: Howard
4.05: Kelce

4.06: Mahomes
I wanted to grab another QB here as I anticipate another run coming, but guys like Diggs, ARob, and Freeman are tempting here as well. The fact that Reid signed off on trading Smith makes me think Mahomes is good, and he obviously has a ton of upside. I grabbed him here and I want to get a guy like Rivers/Dalton/Big Ben a round or two later to solidify my QB corps.

4.07: Carr
4.08: Rookie Pick 1.03
4.09: ARob
4.10: Jarvis
4.11: Engram
4.12: Freeman
5.01: Diggs
5.02: Ryan
5.03: Brees
5.04: Cooks
5.05: TY
5.06: Davis

5.07: Gronk
In a TE premium I love getting the top scoring TE in the 5th. I think all the retirement talk is overblown, and it's driven his price down. Still just 28, I feel confident in him and I plan on loading up on younger upside TEs later in the draft since there are a lot I like later.

5.08: Trubs
5.09: Smith
5.10: HHenry
5.11: JuJu
5.12: Rookie Pick 1.04
6.01: Thielen
6.02: DHenry
6.03: Sammy
6.04: Alshon
6.05: McKinnon

6.06: Rookie Pick 1.05
I went Rookie 1.05 because in a SF these mid firsts are worth more than a normal league as I could land one of the top rookie QBs or one of the rookie RBs if they fall because others are grabbing QBs. I love this spot for this pick

6.07: Fuller
6.08: Baldwin
6.09: Rookie Pick 1.06
6.10: Shady
6.11: Rookie Pick 1.07
6.12: JG
7.01: Ingram
7.02: Rookie Pick 1.08
7.03: Rivers
7.04: Njoku
7.05: Rookie Pick 1.09
7.06: Rookie Pick 1.10

TRADE
I decided to trade this pick because I didn't love the guys available, and all the WRs are in a similar tier. I ended up trading 7.07 and 13.07 for 2019 1st, 10.05 and 14.06. I like the trade as guys like KB, Martavis, Goodwin, Dalton, Bortles all seem to be going later than the 10th, so I'm trading Funchess or DT for 2019 1st and one of those young upside receivers. I think I can still load up on upside WRs in the next few rounds. When I insert players into the pick spots, that trade seems like a no-brainer to me.

7.07: Funchess
7.08: Tevin
7.09: Graham
7.10: Kupp
7.11: Rookie Pick 1.11
7.12: Drake
8.01: Hyde
8.02: Bortles
8.03: Ajayi
8.04: Dion
8.05: Marv

8.06: DT
I was eyeing DT at 7.07 before I traded it, so I was pumped he fell another round. I really need a guy who I felt was a WR2 lock for the next couple of years, and with their QB situation sured up, I expect a return to the norm for him and Sanders this season.

8.07: Big Ben
8.08: Rookie Pick 1.12
8.09: OJH
8.10: Rudolph
8.11: Parker
8.12: Burton
9.01: Duke
9.02: Dalton
9.03: Keenum
9.04: Dez
9.05: Tate
9.06: Doctson

9.07: Woods
I decided to go with the number one receiver on the Rams. He's still just 26, already has chemistry with Goff, and this is going to be a high powered offense. I think Cooks will be the field stretcher, and Woods will still get a ton of targets.

9.08: Kittle
9.09: Collins
9.10: Olsen
9.11: Agholor
9.12: Edelman
10.01: Crowder
10.02: Shep
10.03: Cohen
10.04: Crab

TRADE
I got an offer for my 10.05 for 10.10 and 14.10 and I thought it was too good to pass up. I'll move back five spots to pick up a solid depth piece all day.

10.05: Fitz

10.06: MWilliams
The Chargers spent the seventh overall pick on him and his rookie season was derailed by injuries. I'll take a flyer on a high upside guy with a ton of talent.

10.07: Rookie Pick 2.01
10.08: Rookie Pick 2.02
10.09: Rookie Pick 2.03

10.10: Rookie Pick 2.04
I decided to take this pick after this short run because I still think I'd rather have this pick than any players available in this spot just because guys will fall into the second since this is a SF draft and QBs will go early.

10.11: Rookie Pick 2.05
10.12: Reed
11.01: Walker
11.02: Godwin

With my next pick I'm looking at KB, Goodwin, or Miller most likely.

Upcoming picks: 11.07, 12.06, 14.05, 14.06, 14.10

Best left:
QB: Tyrod, Flacco, Bradford, Tannehill
RB: Miller, Jones, CJA, Thompson, Foreman, Crow, Burk
WR: KB, Jordy, Goodwin, Golladay, Sanders, MartyB, Meredith, Garcon
TE: Brate, ASJ, Eifert, Doyle, Ebron, Hooper, Jonnu, Shaheen, Clay
Rookie picks 2.06 and later

Any thoughts on my process so far?

I also received an offer of 4.06 and 8.06 for 2019 1st and 6.10. Not that tempting as I think I need my 2nd QB soon, but it's at least worth mentioning.

Looks good to me, granted I only play in one superflex league but I like it so far. What other QBs are on the board? Also, you might grab a TE soon with that premium that you guys have.

I'd probably go Diggs and look for a QB later

a definite starter now is worth more than a random first a year from now. don't trade away early picks now for a first later

if ARob is there i would likely take him or freeman and plan on qb next pick, you will also be able to grab a 3rd and 4th qb in say eli dalton tannehill bradford etc later on they hang around even in superflex

I would have taken ARob over Mahomes but I understand. I'd say you are doing pretty well

Yeah I think I like my team better with ARob looking back at it, but I wanted to try a little something different and take a little more risk than I'm used to.

Take the 1.05 and draft a rookie QB. Easily the best value here.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.
