Advice for next move in Superflex Rebuild (do I trade Hunt and Carr or build around them?)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Advice for next move in Superflex Rebuild (do I trade Hunt and Carr or build around them?)

Postby tresskid84 » Tue Mar 27, 2018 1:36 pm

*This is for the team in my signature* So I took over an orphan and decided I needed to blow it up. When I took over the team it was basically: Cutler and Roethlisberger at QB, Dion Lewis, Doug Martin, McKissic, and DeMarco Murray at RB, Baldwin, Antonio Brown, Garcon, and Jeffery at WR, Clay and Doyle at TE, no Devy assets, and only picks 2.13 and 4.13 in the upcoming rookie/devy draft. The team was a playoff team before I took it over, but it was not good enough to actually compete for any titles going forward, so I went full rebuild

In the last two weeks, I've made 9 trades (trading almost every meaningful player) and what now lies in my signature is my current roster.

So, this is all a long-winded way of asking, what should I try to do next? Do I build around Kareem Hunt, Carr and Trubisky, or should I look to trade, say, Hunt and Carr and look to acquire more assets? Should I go another path? Let me know what you would do next, haha. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I inherited a similar orphan. The only players of more on my roster were Brees Watkins and OBJ, I managed to turn that into the team you see in my signature. My advice to you would be to sit tight until the end of the draft before deciding. I was fortunate to be able to draft hunt and cmc in the same draft, see what your haul will be before deciding!
QB: Carson Wentz, Mitchell Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold
RB: Kareem Hunt, Christian McCaffrey, Duke Johnson, Isaiah Crowell, Rashaad Penny, James Conner, Sony Michel, Nyheim Hines, Jamal Williams

Yeah, I'm torn. I think waiting makes sense some sense, though I would love to get another pick or two in the first. Either way, I am going to look to trade Tannehill, Lee, and Rishard if I can appropriate value for them. I am just undecided if it makes sense to trade guys like Hunt and Carr to get multiple young assets/picks, as I am still quite a few pieces (and likely years) away from competing (the top team in the league is STACKED). Looking for compelling cases either way, haha.

You traded away ABrown, Baldwin, Jeffery, Dion Lewis, Doyle, etc etc. and the best assets now are Carr, Trubisky, Hunt, and 1.12 this year to go along with a ton of future lottery tickets? I have spent literally 5 minutes trying to help in some fashion, and ultimately I don't have any angle to help other than saying I'd try build around young WRs with established roles. I'd be trying to get ahold of the Corey Davis', Mike Williams, etc of the world and hope some pan out. I wouldn't try to build around a young up-in-coming star of a RB, as you might be many years away from competing and Hunt might be worn out before he can win you a championship.... So yes, I'd move Hunt, and for now, I'd hold Carr and Trubisky as literally your only building pieces.

I'd be very careful as you shop Hunt tho, as his return should be very high.... and not be exclusively draft picks....

Lol, I hear you, believe me, trading was not easy and I got the best deals I could for guys. Given the league is a 16 tm superflex, I am pretty happy having Carr and Trubisky now at qb for a rebuild. I was basically stuck in a place of deciding between being mediocre with no chance of winning the title, or pressing the reset button earlier to get a rebuild started and not waste years trying to compete against the stacked teams at the top. I will say, given how the devy aspect is structured, they are much less lottery tickets than some devy leagues I am in. I have a good personal track record of drafting, so I'm not terribly afraid of accumulating picks.

Trading Hunt might be wise in the end. I should be able to pry a lot of value of him, and I'm not looking to realistically compete for the next few years anyway (wasnt going to be able to compete with the roster I started with to begin with, so basically I am in the same boat with much younger assets, haha). Still looking for more thoughts though.

It being a superflex is an entire different monster. Build around Carr and Trubisky unless you can get other young QBs in a deal. Draft WRs. Trade Hunt for a top WR or a high end WR +.

Yeah, Carr I'm only considering dealing because of the amount of assets I could get in return to help with a likely longish rebuild. Keeping him and Mitch would be ideal though.

Any more opinions, do I trade Hunt in particular for a bunch of picks/young assets or do I hold and start building with him, the QBs and the picks/futures I have already accumulated? Not sure if keeping him makes sense for my roster.

Without seeing what deals you made, it feels like you sold short on some of those players. The team is in a huge mess right now, so I wouldn't mind blowing it all up at this point. Just make sure you get good value for the players you move.

Acquiring Carr and Trubisky was pricey, given its a 16 team superflex, but those are guys that should have a long window, and Hunt obviously didnt come cheap. In terms of overall assets, I think I have actually added value, especially long-term, but I seem to be in the minority, haha. I am clearly not looking to compete this year, or next, but the team I inherited wasnt good enough to compete for the title anyway in this league and was old/declining. Judging by your comment, though, seems like you would lean trading Hunt (which I am kind of leaning towards as well). My intention has been to build looking towards 2020 to really start considering competing. Just not sure I have enough picks and futures to build enough to make that a reality.

so far, I've traded away: Antonio Brown, Baldwin, Jeffery, Big Ben, Dion Lewis, J Doyle, Pierre Garcon, Charles Clay, DeMarco Murray, Doug Martin, Russell Shepard, 4.13

and I've Received: Kareem Hunt, Derek Carr, Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Aaron Jones, Rishard Matthews, Chad Hansen, 1.12, 2.08, 2.12, 2.16, 3.03, 3.07, 4.02, 4.16, 2019-1st (middle of pack), 2019-2nd, 2019-2nd, 2019-3rd, 2019-4th, 2019-4th

Considering its a 16tm Superflex, I think I've done well and added value overall (obviously not trying to compete this year), but what do you think? Am I overvaluing the young QBs?

I think you have done well. Considering how deep the starting requirements are it almost seems like just having two good qbs and solid depth elsewhere could net you a championship. 10 players is a lot to bring out in a 16 team league. Laquan Treadwell is probably a weekly starter for someone in this league, for gosh sakes. :nono:

In this particular format I would try to move Hunt and gain as many assets as I could.

In regards to Treadwell, a boy can dream, lol.

In terms of Hunt, I'm actively sending offers with him, but only going to take a deal at my price. If I hit on my picks, I can turn things around by the time he is hitting his prime years, so keeping him is not a bad alternative, but I would rather turn him into more future and young assets to give myself as many home run swings as possible

Re: Advice for next move in Superflex Rebuild (do I trade Hunt and Carr or build around them?)

I would not trade carr or Trubisky at all unles your getting a qb you like back on the other hand I’d try and move Hunt for multiple first rounders or some nice young wrs as rbs statistically have about 5-7 good years if there a A damn good back and you should be rebuilding the next couple

Yeah, this is kind of where I am leaning. Trubisky I was never considering trading and Carr I am strongly leaning towards holding at this point. I feel like I was able to buy him low and am going to hold him and hope for a bounce back year.

I am trying to trade Hunt high at this point. The arguments for keeping Hunt are definitely valid, however. Its been a tough call for me, but I think getting the multiple assets looks like the smart plan for me at this stage. I'm definitely going to patient with it though and only take a deal I love.
