Startup pick vs 2019 rookie pick

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

I don't think I've ever seen future picks in startups...how does that work? How do you decide where the pick eventually falls?

I am currently in a startup draft. Our 2019 picks are available to trade away. I was wondering how to value my 2019 1st vs startup picks. For example....If I offer my 2019 1st for startup pick 8.05 is that a win or lose? I'm not sure how to determine that. Especially since it is truly a completely random 1st.

Gotcha...sorry, for some reason I thought 2019 picks were included in the startup draft. I'd have to imagine even a late 2019 1st would be worth more than someone in the 8th round of a startup. I'd look at current ADP and see where some of the rookies this year are going in startups and use that as a guide. Excluding Barkley, who apparently is going in the 1st round of startups and even as early as top 4/5, I'd imagine a mid 1st is probably closer to a 4th/5th round value?

The general rule is that a future 1st is worth a 6th round pick in a startup draft and a future 2nd is worth a 14th. These are also the values people use when plugging trades into a startup trade calculator.

Personally I've made the argument that given the large bust rate in the 5th/6th rounds of startup drafts, the best move is to trade your 6th for a future 1st or your 5th for a future 1st and 2nd. Not gotten many others onboard the idea yet though.

The general rule I’ve seen is that future 1’s are worth about a 7. I’ve read that 2019 isn’t shaping up to be a great year (though obviously a lot can change quickly). If I’m selling a startup pick blind I’d move an 8 for a 2019 1 if selling while OTC and didn’t like what was left I’d probabl settle for a 7.
