2018 draft advice

Postby Gator Sens » Sun Feb 18, 2018 9:07 am

I'm very close to a deal for Amari Cooper that will only take Chad Williams off my roster and 0 2018 picks. Based on that, I'm leaning pretty heavily towards drafting 3 running backs with the 1.02, 1.03 and 1.04 picks. I know there is a lot that could change with the combine coming and landing spots but wondering based on my roster (and adding Cooper) is 3 RB's a good move for my team? I also have 6 2nd round picks to add a little more depth to WR/TE/QB.

Too early to say definitively.. But if some WR has his draft stock soar between now and the draft I would look to grab the top WR as well.

WR is your biggest hole.

I'm certainly going to be keeping an eye on the WR's as my leagues draft approaches. Seems like a bit of a weaker class at the top this year but Ridley seems like a fairly safe pick. I think Sutton and Washington both have high upside but also a few questions. The combine should give a bit of a better picture.

ArrylT: As the deal stands last time I spoke with the Cooper owner, 2020 1st, 2019 3rd and Chad Williams for Cooper.

What the others already said! Nicely done!

Anyways regardless, while you probably want to go BPA, if your need is WR, then I'd look to see what WRs you can get for at least one of the picks.

Even with Cooper, you're hurting at WR more than you are at RB. Obviously take best player available, or use the picks to trade for another high end WR.

WR is much weaker than RB. I'd explore this option, but if you can't shake loose a WR that you like from another owner, just go BPA and hope for the best.

Definitely get that Cooper deal done ASAP.

This...

Use those picks to grab a high end WR1 from somebody. Keep in mind that RB depth in the draft will be better than WR depth. All of those 2nds should be able to find a back or two with potential to start.

How do you guys acquire so many picks while keeping your stars. Having 6/12 second round picks, and 3/12 first round picks is pretty impressive. The only way I can get that many picks is if I blow up my whole roster, and even then I might not be able to get that many picks.

But back to the original topic. I think you need to add another WR1, maybe pair up some picks and grab another WR? Or use one of the first round picks and a few 2nd round picks on WRs. The RB class is deep though, so if you do spend all the first on RB and 2/3 hit then in the future you'll have a lot of trade assets.

jp4703-I actually did pretty much blow my team up last season and start rebuilding. I made a few trades for 1st rounders at the beginning of the season last year and was very lucky where they ended up landing in the draft. The 2nd rounders I acquired throughout the season and with some of my early season trades. I hope me rebuild pays off and sets me up nicely moving forward.

I have tried moving a couple higher picks for solid WR's and have not had any luck in doing so. The Cooper trade is on-hold for now. I still think it will get done but the other owner is in wait and see mode before the combine. If I can still add Cooper, I will feel a lot better about me team heading into the draft. Thanks for all the ideas and thoughts on this feed everyone.

I obviously like the trade but I like taking 3 RBs as well. I think the BPA for the top 5 picks right now is RB and I think once these guys start testing their stock will only rise.

You need to go sweeten that Cooper trade with one or two of those 2018 2nds to get it done. It would still be a cheap price for him. You should get better offers for those picks closer to your draft, but I would look to move at least one for an established WR. Other posts are correct about the second round being full of similar tiered potential.
