Startup Draft Advice

Postby killionb » Mon Jan 22, 2018 12:07 pm

I'm in a 32-team, 1-copy league where teams have 33 roster spots (so waiver wire is super thin!), and here's are starting lineup requirement:

1 Quarterback, 1 Running back, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 2 Offensive Flex players (RB, WR or TE), 1 Team Kicker
3 D-Linemen(DT or DE), 3 Linebackers, 3 Def Backs(CB or S), 2 Defensive Flex player (DL, LB or DB)

We are now starting Round 6 of our startup draft (so pick 160). Here's my team so far:

QB Brees
RB A. Collins
WR A. Brown, J. Gordon
DE J. Bosa, JJ Watt, and A. Donald (DL's get slightly extra points for tackles/sacks, and the top tier DE's in this league outscore the top LB's)

Here are a few players that are still on the board at 160. Just wondering who you would go with out of the following:

Emmanuel Sanders - Age scares me (30), but still productive
Matt Brieda - Chance of being the starting 49ers RB next year if Hyde is gone
Theo Riddick - This is a .5 ppr league
Ameer Abdullah - Afraid Detriot is going to try to find a different lead RB this off-season
Delanie Walker - Main target of Mariota but 33 years old
Tyler Eifert - Injury prone
CJ Prosise - Injury prone but young

You're on the clock, who do you pick??

Walker is the safest player here by far and you need a TE...seems like an easy decision. Especially since your team already has a few veterans and looks like you're playing/drafting to win. Just out of curiosity, who are the QBs still left?

Eifert
Did you trade up for an additional pick or is it round 7?

By 1 copy you mean that there are zero duplicates? Only one of each player in the entire league? Or one "original" and one "copy" of each player?
If there's two of each player, this is essentially a 16 team league. With the 11 required starting IDP every week, your IDP side of the roster will probably be 16 or so players I'd guess...so it's essentially a 16 team 17 ofensive players per roster type of depth. That leaves talent on the waivers.

I like Walker as well, should have a few years left!

That's not what the Jonnu Smith owners want to hear...

I traded up a few times. We are starting Round 6 now. 1-Copy means each player can only be owned by 1 team. Pretty challenging!!

It was an interesting start to the draft. With 32 teams and only 1-copy of a player pretty much every good QB is gone now. Here's how fast the QB's flew off the board:

1.01 Wilson
1.02 Watson
1.03 Wentz
1.04 Rodgers
1.05 Goff
1.06 Garoppolo
1.07 Stafford
1.12 Newton
1.13 Prescott
1.15 Winston
1.17 Luck
1.18 Carr
1.21 Cousins
***My pick was 1.23 (Antonio Brown)
1.24 Mariota
1.26 Mahomes
1.30 Ryan
1.31 Brady
2.01 Trubisky
2.09 Rivers
2.10 Brees (me)
2.15 Dalton
2.19 Tannehill
3.09 Roethisberger
3.10 A. Smith
3.11 Bortles
3.28 Bridgewater
5.06 Keenum
5.08 Flacco (sorry forgot about him in my original post)
5.10 Manning
5.13 Taylor

How are you getting rookies in there? Are you just drafting the rookie picks? Drafting pick packages? A separate lottery system to be held later?

Maybe I'm not seeing it, but if Flacco is still available, I'd go with him. Any starting QB with your league setting will be worth more than any of the other players listed. I think all the other starting QBs or QBs with potential to legitimately start are already gone. So Flacco if he's there, otherwise, still Walker for me.

Rookies - We have a separate rookie draft the week after the NFL draft. DEVY players included. We also have 2019 Rookie picks available for trade right now since our starting dues was for 2 years.

Flacco - Sorry, he was picked already. I accidentally forgot to list him.

No worries, I thought that was probably the case.

I was leaning towards either Sanders or Breida. Sanders ranked as the #35 WR on the DLF website and 60 WR's have been taken so far. Breida is more of a risk, but a young RB with a 50/50 chance of starting for the 49ers next year.

I don't feel like Breida has a 50/50 chance of starting...but I know some are pretty high on the kid.
