Michael Thomas Trade (UPDATE)

Postby jonesmaster » Sun Jan 21, 2018 7:42 pm

Owner in my league has offered me an interesting trade:

Give: MT and Hunter Henry
Get: Cooks, Gronk, and 2019 1st

His Team:
WR: Landry, Alshon, Cooks, Larry Fitz, Jordy, Parker
RB: D. Henry (guy loves him though), Mckinnon, Crowell, Breida
TE: Gronk, Doyle

I dont like the initial offer, and would appreciate some help thinking of other option that gives me the best chance of winning in the next 2 years?

I really like Henry and I think without knowing the 2019 pick is a high pick I would decline

I think your best chance would be to keep what you have. The value may be there, but Gronk is older and I wouldn't want the value tied up in receiving options from the same team. MT starts for you, as would Gronk, but I think Henry has the upside to become a TE1.

I'd keep your guys, especially since the 2019 pick isn't helping you win anytime soon.

Oh my...I'm pretty surprised by the poll results and responses so far. I'd take the Cooks + Gronk side pretty easily.

Thomas = Cooks + 2019 1st
Henry <<< Gronk

My thoughts exactly. The demise of Rob Gronkowski is greatly exaggerated. And if you worry about having 2 receiving options from the same team (even though its a top offense with the GOAT at the helm), then try to flip Cooks for another similar receiver (Diggs?). That 2019 1st is a cherry on top of an already good deal.

I'm generally an advocate for selling Gronk but I agree with this valuation right now (and I like Henry). I'd even go as far as to say Cooks+2019 1st > Thomas.

I disagree completely. Thomas is worth a lot more than Cooks and a random future first. And Henry will be a stud TE at some point, maybe even as early as this next season. I would easily pass on this deal and keep Thomas over Cooks. The upgrade from Henry to Gronk isn't a big enough deal to lose out on Thomas

 Beautiful. MT is certainly better than Landry and Cooks, but not the two of them together

With your team make up and being able to start 4WR, not 3, this gives you 4 very good guys to have in your lineup each and every week, rather than 3 solid WRs and then scratching your head and trying to guess for who to play for a 2nd flex

Also, with your roster, see if you can find a buyer for Brees to possible get you a better RB3. Luck, with Rivers in reserve and Trub as your young hopeful is plenty for a 1QB league

This seems to be the general sentiment in this thread but that is laced with recency bias if not altogether inaccurate. MT was better in 2017 by a small margin. But Cooks had a down year with the move to the Patriots (and still quite good). MT is going to have to maintain the kind of production he's had and hope the other two don't rebound in order to be perceived as better. These guys are all very close in age (24-25) and it could be reasonably argued based on the history of these players than either Landry or Cooks is just as good as MT. Both together is a huge coup.
