Ty Montgomery

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Ty Montgomery

Postby dchurch85 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 8:46 am

Just starting a topic for discussion. What Ty Montgomery's value going forward and what do you think his role is going to be? I don't think he is back as a running back in Green Bay.

I wouldn't be shocked if GB asks him to move back to WR. They are prob going to let go of one of Cobb and Jordy. If Cobb goes do they move Jordy to the slot?? if so they might put Adams and Ty on the outside. Either way I can't see anyone giving you a 2nd or higher for him so I am holding and waiting to see how the depth chart shakes out.

He was a top 5 RB in PPR at the start of the season before he broke his ribs. Jones and Williams both played well in his absence, but I don’t see him switching back to WR. They needed all three of them at RB this season. I view Jones as his main competition for winning the job back. I’m not a Williams believer. The nice thing is, GB appears to prefer to go with a bellcow approach and give one RB the lion’s share of opportunity, so we should at least have some clarity on his situation before the start of next year.

I’d probably trade him for an early 2nd or try to use him as a throw-in in a 2-for-1 type of deal to upgrade a position. Otherwise, I’d rather just hold and see how it shakes out.

If you own Monty, it might not be a bad idea to hedge your bet and acquire Jones too, if the price is reasonable. Or go the other direction and try to trade him to the Jones owner, since they might value him a bit higher than most. That’s something I’ll be looking into this offseason.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

Listening to reporters in the last week from packers.com, they seem to think Montgomery will certainly have a role at RB, not WR. Being around the team on the regular, there should be at least a little legitimacy to that statement. At the rate GB suffers injuries every year, if he's not starting he'll likely have plenty of opportunity to see a majority of touches at some point.
Keep in mind that GB was best offensively with Philbin at OC. That could easily play a role in this topic as well.

Very limited role in the backfield in Green Bay. Best opportunity will come if others get injured. If you're an owner you may want to try to hold out for a 2nd round pick but that's pushing it. Best value would be to hold and wait it out. I would not pay anything to buy him. This is the wrong time of year to put anything into a backup RB.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

He'll be in some sort of backup/3rd down role. He might be worth a late 2nd as a high upside handcuff.

There's also a small chance he could have RB/WR eligibility again in some leagues. I wouldn't bank on it, but it's possible.
