This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gronk for Diggs

Postby zoster80 » Fri Jan 12, 2018 8:22 am

I have someone inquire about a Gronk for Diggs trade in PLP below. I own Kelce already so I'm good at the TE spot, but we have 2 flex's and I usually start both.

I am unhappy with my WR's so I do want to improve in that dept. If i wanted to make this move, what is the difference he would need to add to the deal, or is this an even straight up deal?

I would need something added to diggs, such as a pick. Gronk should still carry more value

I'm very curious on how this will play out. I'm horrible at judging top tier TEs in the context of WRs and RBs
Team 1- 10 team ppr, 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flx, 1D, 1K
2022: 1-8
Finishes: 6th, 6th, 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th
QB: Lamar Jackson, Purdy
RB: Bijan, Dobbins, Achane, Charbonnet, Algier, McBride, waiver trash
WR: JSN, QJ, Addison, Dotson, Skyy Moore, Jameson Williams, Hyatt, T Dell, Boutte, Skowronek, Quez Watkins, Greg Dortch, waiver trash
TE: Hockenson, F Monroe, Juwan, Musgrave
D/K: Patriots, Vikings, Saints, Dicker

picks-
2024- 1,1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,4,5,5
2025 1,1,1,2,3,4,5

team 2- 12 team SF, .5PPR, .5TE boost, 1QB, 1SF, 2 RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flex
2022: 8-1
Finishes: 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd :wall:
QB: Ljax, GenoD Jones, Minshew, Dobbs
RB: CMC, Stevenson, A Jones, Chubb, A Mattison, D cook, Perine, Mckinnon,
WR:Tyreek, Diggs, C Kupp, D Adams, Keenan Allen, Lockett, Gallup, A Lazard, Hodgins

The gap between Gronk and Diggs is fairly large because of the position advantage. It would take the 1.04 or so to even get trade talks going. But I'm also not a big fan of Diggs. What has he done to deserve so much praise? Thielen was undrafted and ran circles around him this year. He's just another guy that will never live up to his price tag.
10 Man IDP, .75 ppr, Big Play Bonus, TE Prem, 2 QB, 1-3 RB, 2-4 WR, 2 TE, 2 DT, 2 DE, 3 LB, 4 DB, 34 Keepers (17 off - 17 IDP)

RB: Jacobs, Javonte, Drake, Mack
WR: Thomas, DJ Moore, Mike Williams, Golladay, Mooney, Kirk, Shepard, Parker
TE: Kittle, Ito Smith, Ebron, Bryant, Seals-Jones
DT: Simmons, Cox, Oliver, Vea
DL: Bosa, Hunter, Heyward, Greenard, Odeyingbo
LB: Watt, White, Cunningham, Kirksey

12 Man, 1 ppr, 1 QB, 1-3 RB, 1-3 WR, 1 TE
QB: Tua, Jameis, Cam, Taysom
RB: Taylor, Javonte, CEH
WR: Jefferson, Nuk, Diontae, Juju, Shepard, Mooney, Robby Anderson
TE: Henry, Gesicki, Brevin, Cook

12 Man, 1 ppr, 1 QB, 1-3 RB, 1-3 WR, 1 TE
QB: Russ, Matty Ice, Tannehill

I don't think the gap should be that big, but I do agree that Gronk probably hold more value right now. Maybe a late 1st would get it done.

Are we really valuing Diggs this closely to Gronk? Pretty much the best TE of all time?? Even with Gronk's injuries, it's not like Diggs has been the definition of healthy throughout his career. I just don't understand how y'all value Diggs so high, he hasn't proved anything yet

I agree that Gronk will probably go down as the best TE of all-time, but he'll also be 29 by the start of next season and obviously has a long history of injuries. I'm assuming his value would be somewhere around 1.02-1.04, and I can't imagine a Diggs owner would sell him for much less than that (maybe 1.04-1.06, but even then I doubt you can get him that cheap). To me, a late 1st seems more than reasonable, especially with the 4.5 year difference in age.

This is my problem I guess. What has he done to deserve that kind of value? I feel like he's becoming the next Moncrief

I'm personally not the highest on him, but I'm guessing that's where his owners would value him. I wouldn't compare him to Moncrief because he's actually produced when healthy (unlike Crief). I think the talent is there, but the injuries are what would concern me if I was buying.

a late first wouldn't be enough for me to sell Gronk. Might be different as I only play non-PPR. For our season (up to week 16) he'd have finished as the WR5 - above Julio amongst others (Diggs was way down in 19th - his best ever year). Given that he gives such a positional advantage I personally think he's more valuable than Julio, especially if you have Kelce and can start both. Julio pretty comparable though.

The flip side is his age and mounting injuries. It's probably a good time to sell, but personally I'd look to flip for WR1 straight up if you can get it, but can't see they'd be many buyers...

'17 Champ, '18 Runner Up, '23 rebuild

QB Watson, A Richardson, O' Connel (TS)
RB Gibbs, Akers, Dillon Carter, Bigsby, Chase Brown, Mcintosh, Tucker, Hull (TS)
WR Metcalf, DJ Moore, Addison, Meyers, Van Jefferson, Collins, Claypool, Mingo (TS), Hyatt (TS), Wilson (TS)
TE Higbee, Freirmuth, Otton (TS)

I would also prefer to keep Gronk over Diggs + late 1st, but I do think that's about right in terms of consensus valuation. OP, what does the Tyreek Hill owner's roster look like? Have you considered swapping KC players by offering Travis Kelce for Hill?

I personally think your RBs are in dire need of a talent infusion. You’re WRs are a bit older but you have Ajayi at RB and no one else. I’d be looking to move Gronk for a good RB and more if you can get it.
