Trade my 2019 picks for (late) 2018 picks?

Postby Concept Coop » Thu Dec 14, 2017 10:55 am

I've poured every ounce of value into my starting lineup, at the expense of my depth and future picks. While my core will very likely carry me to the playoffs next year and beyond, bye weeks and injuries could put me in a tough spot. I also need some upside darts. I feel confident that I can turn my 2019 picks into late 2018 picks (2019 - 1,2,3,4 for 1.11(ish), 2.11, 3.11, 4.11). The upside is I get help now; the downside is that if things don't go my way next year, I will have traded mid picks for late picks. (Last year's champ is drafting 1.05, for example)

Should I trade my 2018 picks for 2019 picks?

And if so, should I make the picks and add some youth, or flip them for a vet or two? For example, late first for Crabtree, Tate, DT, Jones, etc.

12 Tm PPR - 4 pt passing TD - QRRWWWTFD - 25 man rosters - no IR/Taxi spots
Q - Wentz
R - Kamara, Fournette, Lewis, Barber, Ware, Ivory, Brown
W - Hopkins, Thomas, Diggs, Kearse, Cole
T - Ertz, Clay, Seals-Jones
2018 picks: None
2019 picks: 1,2,3,4

I wouldn't do that. Late 1st round picks probably won't help you much next year anyway, and you'd be risking giving up earlier picks in 2019 for a dart throw this year.

Thanks for your thoughts. Fair to assume you also wouldn't use the 2019 picks as trade parts to add a vet?

Depends on who you can get. I don't mind trading picks for players, as long as the value is right.

Late first round picks are the ideal picks to flip for established vets. The exception obviously being if you're very high on a rook who is tending to fall to the late first (I had my eye on Kamara in that range and wouldn't budge on dealing my late firsts this past year).

If you're prudent, you are going to find 2-3 solid depth options on the wire over the course of the year next year. With zero picks - I would make THAT your supreme focus. Be the first to snatch the guys who may have opportunity down the line. There is an Alex Collins every year. Sometimes multiple.

Don't force trades - know that waivers will be there for you all season - and be patient. Otherwise, you'll find yourself in the same scenario year after year.

I'd wait till next season if your going to move draft picks. Your team is young enough that you should be able to count on those guys for the forsseable future

Trading for vets is certainly a valid option, if you get value, otherwise hold firm and ride it out. From all early accounts '19 is going to be much deeper than this year so you'll want to have picks then to use
Dynasty - 9th year, 12-team, Standard scoring, 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2FLEX, 1K, 1DE/DT, 1LB, 1CB/S - 25man roster / 6 Taxi Squad
'17 Champ, '18 Runner Up, '23 rebuild

QB Watson, A Richardson, O' Connel (TS)
RB Gibbs, Akers, Dillon Carter, Bigsby, Chase Brown, Mcintosh, Tucker, Hull (TS)
WR Metcalf, DJ Moore, Addison, Meyers, Van Jefferson, Collins, Claypool, Mingo (TS), Hyatt (TS), Wilson (TS)
TE Higbee, Freirmuth, Otton (TS)
K Joseph
DE/DT Hunter
LB Franklin Simmons
C/S James

Like others have said it's all about value. There are times when trading a current pick for a future is a good move and there are times its not. You have to really know the roster of the pick you are getting and giving. For example last year I traded the 1.10 for a future 1st that came from a team whose roster i thought looked pretty shaky so I thought worst case scenario I would be picking at 1.10 a year later but there was a high likelihood it would be much higher. That pick turned out to be 1.01/Barkley (brag post i know lol). But it's why it's important to know the rosters of everyone.

If you need RB help you might be able to get it this year. I feel like theres a descent amount of RBs and teams that need them this year. But the lack of top quality WRs will be pushing them up the draft board. I would hold. That 2019 1st will still get you a veteran in the season if you needed one.
