Team Evaluation (new member)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Team Evaluation (new member)

Postby Weber27 » Sat Dec 09, 2017 12:11 pm

I am new to this forum and had a lot of people telling me to check it out. I am happy I did, I have been reading threads for days, love what you guys are doing. I currently took over an orphan team (my first dynasty team ever) the team I got was pretty terrible all around, but I started with the 2nd overall last year and a slew of draft picks so I was able to get a good group of young players from last years draft. I have some good young RB's but I have 0 stud or even WR 1's. After looking at my roster who would you target in the offseason and what would you give?

QB - Stafford, Bortles, Mahomes
RB - Cook, McCaffrey, Mack, Booker, Perine, Duke Johnson, Rob Kelly, DeAngelo Henderson, Mike Davis, McNichols (I also have the 1.01 Saquon Barkely)
WR - Jordan Matthews, Cobb, Tyrell Williams, Taywan Taylor, Marques Lee, Decker, Godwin, Boyd, Malone, Chad Williams, Austin Carr, Carlos Henderson
TE - Njoku, Brate, McDonald, Butt

2018 Draft picks:
1.01
1.06-8
2.03
3.03
5.01

2019 Draft picks:
1. 2 picks
2. 2 picks
3. 1 pick

Thank you guys,
Cheers!

Welcome. With Barley joining the mix, you have a good core with him, CMC, and Cook (assuming he recovers well). Your QB and TE situation looks fine for now. You were correct in stating you have quite a few young assets. You may have to sit on them, make your 2018 picks, then look to deal closer to next season when the hype machine starts up. Too many of your WRs are far down the depth chart.
I'd look to move Perine, Booker, Duke, and/or Mack to upgrade at WR, possibly coupling them with a WR getting good press at that time, but that would take analyzing everyone's rosters closer to the beginning to see who might need a little RB depth.
Good luck. It may take a little while, but I think you will enjoy watching this team grow.

Grab the best RB 1.01, and then start working on WRs. Take some flyers on WR's with those later first round picks. Have a good core of Rb's.

Awesome, thanks guys.

Great advice. I look forward to building this team into a competitive team. Having 2 1sts the next 2 years gives me some trade options for WR going forward.

I have been doing redraft fantasy leagues for years, this is my first couple years of Dynasty and I am in love, so much fun building a team and finding deep player pick ups. I really like my depth I think I have a couple guys who can hit in the next few years at WR. Taywan Taylor, Chad Williams, Chris Godwin and Carlos Henderson are all guys who I think could play a part, hoping at least 1 of them can blow up.

Not sure which WRs you should target, but they should be young and have high upside. I'd look to sell Jmatt and Cobb during the off-season if you can.

I agree- Take Barkley at #1 then use your next picks for potential WR's. I would hold T. Williams and Lee- maybe Henderson too. You have a good RB core- don't throw it away at a chance.

I was def looking at moving Cobb, JMatt I was hoping would land in a better situation being a FA next year, maybe that will get me more value as well.

I agree I am holding all of those guys. Looking to move Cobb (one team owner is a packers fan homer and will probably take him for something). Do you agree with moving JMatt or waiting to see where he lands?

WR's I can target from teams who have WR depth. What is good trade value for each of these guys?

If Hopkins is available I would be going hard after him. The asking price might be too much but I would kick the tires for sure. I would also make a play for Thielen. I know he is older for a breakout player but I think with his low usage he can be productive for 4-5 years still fairly easily. If the owner is undervaluing him still he could be a discount. I personally think he will outproduce Diggs going forward but many still value Diggs more than him. If I could spend a late first to acquire him I would be all over that.

Welcome! Not a bad squad so far at all.

I like the core RB and with 1.01 you will have Barkley as well

I would be very tempted to throw the mid 1st out there with a guy ike Cobb or J Matt to see if you can get a younger WR in return. With 2 flex you should be alright, as you have many RB that could start but I would try to diversify a bit. If you have doubts about any of those young RB, sell, sell, sell. WR will last much longer anyhow. Good luck!

I'd be looking to buy WRs with your non 1.01 picks. Trying to send your mid 1st for a WR like ARob/Watkins/Diggs if there owners soured on them for either injuries or not living up to the hype earlier in the year. If you can land a couple WRs to build around for non-elite picks, you'll be setting yourself up nicely.

With the addition of Barkley with 1.01, you might also consider selling CMC for a slight downgrade while picking up a decent asset. I don't envision many weeks where you'd be starting a RB other than Barkley and Cook (assuming start 2 RB).

I tried so hard to get Hopkins before the season and he wouldn't move him, now his price will be outrageous, although probably worth it, I just don't think I could get that deal done. The team with Theilen I think I could get a deal done with. I was thinking 2019 1st (probably 5-10) and Randal Cobb, he is also a Packers fan likes all those players. Do you think that would get it done?

Thank you, I love my RB's but the longevity of the RB position is less so I need to figure out who to sell with draft picks to land a couple WR1 or strong WR2. I am just afraid of trading a guy like Mack, Perine or Booker blowing up after I trade them, ideally I want to have him when he blows up and then move him for much higher value.

Thank you for the insight.

I am looking at making a move for Theilen and ARob both are on teams that I have traded with before and I think I can get a deal done. Theilen I was thinking 2019 first (5-10) and Cobb (he is a packers fan) do you that would be enough? For ARob I feel like he wants a lot, would the 2018 1.05 and 2019 2nd be enough? I was also thinking about trying to move up to 1.03 from 1.05 and drafting Sutton Barkely & Guice are almost a guarantee (I am taking Barkely, 1.02 team has no RB's). Would you rather gamble on Sutton @ 1.03 or gamble on ARob post injury and potential team chance?
