Gronk for Hunt

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Which player is a better choice for my roster?

Gronk for Hunt

Postby MontrealBen » Thu Dec 07, 2017 4:16 pm

I've been in talks for weeks with an owner who is very strong at RB -- Hunt, Freeman, Kamara, Mixon, Hyde. He needs a TE (been getting by the with WAS tandem, but that's fallen through now), and I have both Gronk and Graham. I am playing this week, and he is the #1 team from the regular season and is on bye. I'm looking at rolling out (against a team with a very high ceiling):

RB - Fournette
RB - Lewis
WR - Evans
WR - Alshon
RB/WR - Collins
TE - Graham

with a bench of Crowder, Watkins, Davis, AJones, Barber, Gronk (susp)

Should I make that deal, knowing that I'll be helping another playoff team? Or would you be content with this lineup for the playoffs?

still gronk but i see the sense in trying to win this week and also gaining a younger asset.

wouldnt fault you either way. gronk is a big edge at te where hunt has not given teams an edge at rb since week 5 or whatever

No way. If you were rebuilding, I'd maybe say Hunt, but you're in the playoffs...why would you help a team that you may face in a week or two that currently has zero options at TE? Also, Hunt has been a RB3/flex the last few weeks. Weeks 14-16, you're pretty much playing redraft. Would you trade away Gronk for Theo Riddick or JD McKissic in a redraft right now? Because those RBs have outscored Hunt the last four weeks...I would start Lewis and Collins over Hunt at this point even if you owned him.

Whoa. Hunt's workload has been there, the TDs haven't. Against Oak, LAC, and Mia I can definitely see some positive TD regression. Seems like a scorching taek to me to start Collins over him in the next two weeks (@Pit, @Cle).

Three further things to add:
-- Money is paid out in this league to the top 3 finishers. Getting through this week is a big thing for me.
-- He now has Cam Brate, so if I don't do the deal it's not like he's f'ed at TE.
-- What if there was a conditional pick swap attached, where if one of us clearly gets the better end of the deal over the next three weeks, they owe the player a first round pick next year in exchange for some lower round pick?

I'm not saying Hunt is unstartable. I'm saying the huge upgrade from Brate to Gronk is way more beneficial for your adversary than the marginal upgrade from Collins to Hunt (maybe even a relatively lateral move as Collins is the GL back and involved in the passing game). If you really want Hunt, it's not a terrible trade. I just wouldn't do it.

I think it's close in a vacuum so in your situation I'd definitely stick with Gronk because it helps your opponent much more than it helps you

On the contrary, Andy Reid hasn't been giving Hunt enough volume. Most weeks recently he's barely touching the ball in the first half (an no coincidence that the Chiefs have lost 6 of the last 7...you can't win on Alex Smith's arm).

Gronk is still a cheat code at the TE position. Hunt... well he should have been sold for waaaay too much during his run earlier in the season.

For what it's worth, I offered Gronk to the Hunt owner a couple weeks ago and was turned down.
