OBJ & 1.09 for M Thomas, 1.01 and 2.03

OBJ & 1.09 for M Thomas, 1.01 and 2.03

Postby NFL123 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 2:10 pm

Been having discussions with the Beckham owner about acquiring him. He would trade him along with 1.09 (although could be as high as 1.12) for M Thomas, 1.01 (Barkley) and 2.03.

I would love to get him but the thought of losing Barkley and the value of 1.01 is putting me off.

Is it worth it?

OBJ side for me. Barkley is a heck of a talent and a lot of hype, but OBJ is a top 2 fantasy asset. No guarantee Barkely overthrows the DJ, Bell, Zeke, Gurley fantasy plays to claim that title

He doesn't have to though! Barkley is an unbelievable talent and he should be a RB1 for years to come. OBJ is also unbelievable, but he also carries some risks (injury, attitude, holdout) and I think this is a very well crafted deal where both parties could walk away happy.

I think this comes down to Michael Thomas. I admit I wasn't ready to get on his hype train prior to the season, but he has quietly been a rock solid player and his only risk at this point is the age of Drew Brees. I think I would lean toward the MT side, but this has a great shot to be a win for both...I like the bold move by both owners!

IMO this is really close (I'd probably take Odell? Maybe?). With your roster, it really comes down to whether you want arguably the top asset in dynasty or two theoretical studs.

Just to play devils advocate with one of the posts above, I too worry a little bit about MT after Brees, but who is going to be throwing to Odell the next few seasons?

1.09 is too specific, that's a playoff team draft slot...any chance adding MT to that team increases their immediate bleep at the championship?

Glad I'm not the only one struggling with this offer!

The 1.09 pick is a guess that the guy will win his play off match but lose his next. Best case scenario is 1.07 but worst case is 1.12. Currently he is in a play off match at 1.08. He hasn't mentioned it being a make or break deal if we can't get it done tonight for Thomas to play, or maybe I should take my time and wait until after tonight for any deal to help the draft pick.

Brees is a worry, especially as they are a run first team now but as you guys pointed out, the Giants QB situation is just as murky and at least with Thomas, you get a guy that seems all business, OBJ carries a lot of potential baggage despite his unreal talent.

Regardless of value I don't think that trade helps your team. You would be losing a RB1 and a WR1 for a better WR1. You can roll out Zeke, Fournette and Barkley for the next 5-6 years along with M. Thomas. Or.....Zeke and Fournette with OBJ. I'd keep the picks and take Barkley then try to land a #2 WR with your other 2 picks or trade Burkhead and picks for a WR. I like your team a lot.

Close, but I'd take the Thomas side.

OBJ is a stud, but a loose cannon and in this kind of a huge trade I'd rather not gamble on him when giving up some great pieces

Also, OBJ's QB situation is a much greater immediate risk than Thomas'.

Agree that OBJ's QB situation sucks, but it has sucked and he's still produced. Eli was dreadful last year and this year and we have no idea when Brees will retire and who would replace him. As far as we know M Thomas is QB dependent.

That said I think this is a fair trade value wise and would come down to a preferential guess about each player's projected future. OBJ is still the number 1 dynasty asset so risks associated with him are probably overplayed. I worry we're overhyping Barkley but if he's at least equal to Fournette in terms of talent/situation (which most contend he'll be better) then a high end RB1 plus Thomas probably would be worth more than OBJ next year. If you're risk adverse go OBJ, if you like to gamble stick with Thomas and Barkley

I'd hold onto Thomas and the 1.01. Unless it's a crazy overpay, I'm not selling the 1.01. We're likely going to see some rookie fever trades like OBJ for the 1.01 straight up.

Very close but I'd prefer the Michael Thomas and Barkley side.

Come April, MThomas will be perceived as very close to a top 5 dynasty WR (ODB, Evans, Hopkins, Brown, then some mix of Green, Julio, and MThomas?). And, that 1.01 will have sky high value. I'd rather have a WR that produces similarly to ODB and the chance at a true stud 3 down back.
