Grade My Trading This Year

Postby block2323 » Wed Nov 22, 2017 12:05 pm

We had our initial draft this year and I was by far the youngest team after the draft...my team was GROSS scoring wise (Hence my 0-3 start). I started making moves early to try and improve my team. I decided to look back at all the trades I have made for the team in the signature below to see what I have added/lost throughout the year (yes I may have a trading problem). All my trades that I have made this year have been to try and help me to win now while gaining earlier picks or moving up in the draft for next year since we only keep 8 players. What side do you have... the gave or the received. I will admit I have made some bad trades in hindsight & I think I have made some good ones with the ultimate goal of setting my team up for a ship now and going forward. Would like everyone's take as I did technically "overpay" for a lot of these trades and my team is type old now . Also, how does this look for a potential championship team in a 12 team league?

Gave:
Zeke (this hurt, but he wasn't helping me win a ship this year)
Cooper (I was a believer at the beginning of the year & I really wasn't liking what I was seeing)
Mixon (this will hurt down the line)
C. Davis (young stud & I'm sure I will miss him)
A. Luck (I view him as being a shell of his former self & I don't trust him moving forward)
D. Henry
Ju Ju (My 2nd favorite wr in this class but had to do it to try & compete)
T. Coleman
J. Gordon (Unlike a lot of people on this forum, I really like Gordon's future after this year)
D. Parker
M. Williams (Wasn't a believer)
K. Golladay
C. Carson
D. Lewis (Waivers)

not to sound like a idiot, bit I cant really judge it based on all this for all that.

I guess it depends on if you hit with your picks

idk if I would have traded zeke away but if your happy that's all that matters.

Too many pieces to judge, but I think i prefer the pieces you gave up than the ones you got.

It would be easier to rate how you did if you posted each individual trade!

i am not sure it was necessary to sell off every young player to compete this year....but the goal is to win the fantasy super bowl, if you accomplish that, you won every trade

I’m the same way, as a whole, I’d rather have the starting squad but the return team isn’t extremely bad for trying to win this year

I mean if you win, awesome. If not, you only keep 8 right? No need to have a bench full of potential if you drop it every offseason. Makes the AB and Zekes way more valuable and players like Gordon, who I also believe in, mehh as you likely throw him back. The 8 keepers ultimately make the league closer and like I said, picks and top players, more valuable

You gave away so much youth. If you win it all this year it's worth it. If you don't, you effed up big time as it will take a while to come back from that

Edit: Just saw that its an 8 keeper league not a true dynasty, so its not nearly as bad with what you gave up. I would treat 8 keeper as a redraft and only hold 1-2 young (high) upside players tops

Yes we only keep 8. This was my thinking was I only need a couple young "prospects" rather than my whole team being prospects...Zeke was by far my most valuable piece and all of the other guys were either not living up to expectations (Looking at your Cooper) or not really expected to be "producing". I wanted to see basically how much the community values youth over producers as the guys I traded for still have several years left & the guys I traded away are "Potential producers". The community appears to rather have future potential, then proven production & ability to draft more guys in the future that are "Potential producers".

Keepers to Start The Season:
1) Zeke
2) A. Cooper
3) C. Davis
4) J. Mixon
5) D. Henry
6) D. Parker
7) Ju Ju
8) Dak / Luck / T. Coleman / J. Gordon / Corey Coleman / Crowder (Would have had to pick 1)

Current Keepers:
1) Antonio Brown
2) AJ Green
3) Brandin Cooks
4) D. Baldwin
5) L. McCoy
6) M. Ingram
7) Lamar Miller / Corey Coleman (Need to pick 1)
8) Dak / A. Jones / J. Crowder (Need to pick 1)

***I also moved up in every round basically & added picks near the beginning of the draft since only the top 96 players are kept...I now have what I think is a star studded lineup but also has upside going forward considering I can flip picks/my player depth for further upgrades. In the offseason I will look to move some of my current keepers for upgrades and or draft picks (guys like McCoy, Ingram, Miller, Green, Baldwin in order to get a little younger).

Major Trades:

1) Early Season Trade - I traded away A. Luck & K. Golladay for Doug Baldwin - I did not believe Luck was coming back this season & I think colts are a disaster... I like this trade so far as I was not going to keep 2 QB's
2) Early Season Trade - I traded away D. Parker, M. Williams & two 2nd round picks for AJ Green & 4th Round Pick...I like this trade for win now mode and I like AJ over what I gave up
3) Mid Season Trade - I Traded A. Cooper away for 1st (early) and two 3rds (I am aware I sold Cooper low here but I did not want him anymore...he is not who many in this community make him out to be & Carr did not progress like I would have thought & I honestly do not miss him - I prefer Cooks over Cooper).
4) Mid Season Trade - I traded away D. Henry, Ju Ju, My 1st (expecting it to be late), 3rd rd, 4th rd for McCoy & 1st (Top 3 Pick)...The pick was the most valuable piece to me here and McCoy helped with my time frame. Long term I love Ju Ju (he ironically exploded the week after I traded him - ouch)

The most controversial trades are probably these in the eyes of the community:
5) Late Season Trade - I Traded away Joe Mixon, D'onta Foreman, Josh Gordon, Ravens, 1st round (early/mid), 2nd round (late) for Mark Ingram, B. Cooks, Jaguars, 5th and 6th round...Now this trade I am sure the community will cry foul as I gave up a lot of youth & some solid picks....I did not view Foreman as a keeper, Joe Mixon has future potential & was not helping me this year, I like Jags over Ravens & B. Cooks I felt could help me this year & long term...Waiting for the reactions lol
6) Late Season Trade - I Traded away Zeke, Corey Davis 6th (late), 10th (late) and 12th (late) round picks...for Antonio Brown, Lamar Miller, 2.02, 3.02 and 4.02...This one the community will also hate I am sure since I gave up Zeke & CD. I view AB as a piece that could put me over the top this year, Lamar added some depth for me and the picks will allow me to reload my team next year for hopefully another run.

Cant wait to hear the responses :D

I think moving up in the draft is huge. I mean look at some of the talent you are throwing back. Everyone is going to do the same. Draft well and you will have a good squad next year though.

I would try really hard though to package those players for a top tier guy though. They are very valuable in that setup

I agree, moving up in the draft was one of the biggest things for me. I have one of the better teams and also some of the better picks going into next year. In terms of depth, I have more depth than the other teams in the league so there are a couple teams that have only 5-6 true keepers. I will be working with them to try to upgrade/add additional picks. Thanks for your thoughts!
