Trying to guarantee the 1.01

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trying to guarantee the 1.01

Postby stoneghost28 » Thu Nov 16, 2017 10:17 am

I currently have locked up either the 1.01 or 1.02 in one of my leagues and am trying to guarantee I have the 1.01 via trade. Slotting is determined by potential points, and I am sitting at 1312, and this other owner has 1344 (another owner has 1388 but is getting better rather than worse). We've gone back and forth on trades and his latest counteroffer is:

He gives
Jordan Matthews, John Ross, a pick that is either 1.01, 1.02 or in a worst case scenario 1.03, and a '19 2nd

I give

Brandin Cooks, Derrick Henry, and an '18 first that is currently 1.11 pending the playoffs (has a bye for now).

Would you guys sit tight and only consider a trade after the season? Agree to the deal? Counteroffer?

It's 12 team, PPR.
My Roster is:

QB:
Brissett
Garoppolo
Hundley
IR:
Luck

RB:
Mixon
Henry
Duke
A. Jones
Burkhead
Drake
IR:
Prosise

WR:
Keenan Allen
Brandin Cooks
Sammy Watkins
Tyrell Williams
Chris Godwin
Chad Williams
IR:
Kevin White
Cameron Meredith
Malcolm Mitchell
Dede Westbrook

TE:
Kittle
Jonnu Smith

The roster of the 1st round rookie pick I'd be getting:
QB:
Brady
McCown
Prescott

RB:
Lev Bell
A. Collins
Adrian Peterson
Thomas Rawls
Wendell Smallwood

IR:
David Johnson

WR:
Jordy Nelson
Jeremy Maclin
Jaron Brown
Geronimo Allison
John Brown
Kearse
Perriman
Hollins
Nelson

IR:
Garcon
B. Marshall

TE:
D. Walker
T. Higbee
Dickson

IR:
Olsen

That's an awful lot to give up for a pick that could be the 1.03. I'd hold.

Even if the pick is 1.01, I don't think the deal is worth it. If the pick is 1.02 or 1.03, I definitely don't think it's worth it.

I wouldn't be pulling any deal like that until the season ends. And even if it's the 1.1, I would re-work it because it's too much as is.

this is matthews and top 3 for cooks, henry, mid to late 1 (based on the playoffs).....thats top dollar for 1.3.......you'd have to have a clear 3 right now. i do not. matthews is irrelevant imo...if you love someone like guice at 3...i can see it...but you are losing by a ton in value.

if you are trying to lose ...just sell your qb's.

Thanks for reinforcing my view. I sent offers his way, but feel I'm not getting enough back to justify it, and it's still distinctly possible I actually hold onto the 1.1 w/o doing anything. The frustrating thing is that in this league (like another where I also own the 1.01 currently but it's at risk) and another, I've been trying to artificially inflate the potential points of the guys challenging my hold on the 1.01, but I've reached roadblocks with trade offers. I'm not trading Drake, for instance, w/o getting a '19 2nd back at the very least, and that's a no go in one of the two leagues, while in another I've tried to do some last deals, but no dice.

I know it sounds a bit nutty, but I am anticipating an insane amount of momentum for Barkley at 1.01 in the offseason, more than Zeke in 2016 potentially, and I want to hold that ticket for both keeping/trading purposes, its frustrating because through trades for the most part I've managed to acquire picks that are in deadheats for the 1.01 overall in 6 different leagues, but I've only got a virtual lockdown on the 1.01 in 3 of those 6 leagues. In the other 3 it's a bit of a battle, and it's been impossible to drive a bargain w/the owners of the picks in some of those leagues too.

Just so I'm clear...
You want to give up young elite assets just so can have the "unknown potential" of owning a top pick that could bust?

There is zero reasons to trade guys like Cooks and Henry if you're rebuilding. ZERO.

I'd MUCH rather go into next season with Cooks, Henry and whatever pick you end up with (1.01 - 1.03) rather than the guys you'd be getting back and two high picks.

It's not even close.

I don't view my squad as rebuilding. I see it as a fairly strong squad, especially at RB in terms of depth, but injuries, and trades I made following the injuries depleted the squad. I currently have two 2018 firsts, and 3 '19 firsts (2 of them from definitively weak teams).

I view Barkely as a distinctly superior prospect to Henry, and if I could have pulled his '19 1st which I asked for in the trade, I felt I could probably be in position to replace Cooks with trades. He countered by turning the 1st I was asking for to a 2nd (i anticipate that 1st being high as well) which made me wonder whether i should counter, or just hold fast and hope I lock the 1.01 anyway.

I would argue that Cooks is worth a 1.01 or 1.02 himself probably more and Henry is worth a 1.01-1.03 range. Both players have proven they can play in the NFL at a high level. Henry just needs the touches to be consistent fantasy option. Who ever you get in that range will have to prove they can compete in the NFL. So Henry is equal to the pick you get because it is currently a 1.02. Cooks is worth more then Mathews(Junk) Ross (Bust??) 2019 2nd. So that is a lose right there but now add the fact he gets a late 2018 1st for free. It is a heck no. If you want his first tell him Henry for it straight up or at most add a late 2nd or 2019 2nd. I think it is an overpay but so be it if you like Barkley more and want to put your self in best position to land him.

Im not paying it, and I didn't want it, I started the thread to see if people had ideas for a reasonable counter, or if simply waiting it out made more sense. The consensus here is waiting it out, oddly dynasty twitter is significantly pro-trade for some reason, my brother agrees w/you guys, hell no. I think I've gotten a bit too carried away w/locking down Barkley especially if Guice and Chubb do declare for the draft. I like both a lot, Guice just in general, and Chubb now that he's two years out from the knee injury and getting back closer to where he was in '14 and early '15.
