Melvin Gordon Trade

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

If I'm not mistaken no RB in the modern era has failed to break 4ypc for his first 3 seasons and then retained his job after that. We are all blinded by his volume fantasy stats but it seems likely that if Gordon doesn't turn it around fast SD will bring in someone to complement or even replace him next offseason.
Yeah Gordon would definitely be a huge outlier if he kept putting up these fantasy numbers for several more years at this efficiency. SD has had literally nobody behind Gordon for 2 years now, even if they're not intentionally drafting his direct replacement you have to think they're going to draft or bring in somebody noteworthy at minimum to have a capable backup, and who knows from there.

The eye test shows Gordon as an elite talent. I couldn't be less worried about a RB in dynasty right now.

You know eye-witness testimony is very unreliable.

So your trading two back ups and a unknown future draft pick for Gordon? Easy accept for me. I don't think Gordon has a long NFL career with his knee issues, but he will be solid for the next 3-4 years. Add him along with Mixon and your wr's and your team is looking better and better.

I've seen nothing from Gordon on the eye test that screams elite, and it's moot anyway because elite players don't go three straight years with sub 4 YPC. I know people like to blame the line but Adrian Peterson ran behind some worse lines than this and he did it with much worse QBs than Philip Rivers keeping defenses honest and still averaged up near 5ypc those years.

Gordon has to be the most overrated asset in dynasty to me. Redraft stud, but I'd be surprised if he's still a featured RB a few years from now.

I'm not saying he should be doing what AP did. AP was one of the best runners to ever play the game.

I think the real outlier to consider here is how bad San Diego's line has been. Gordon gets hit before he ever has a chance on a lot of his carries, bringing his YPC down. I'm not worried

Amen. I challenge any guy who knocks Gordon to actually watch every single carry. The dude does not leave yards on the field. He consistently turns a -3 yard run into a 1 yard run, but people on this forum see the 1 yard run on their sports app and go "Oh another 1 yard run, he sucks"

Agree. The dude runs hard. I’ve always been an advocate of Gordon. If he was running behind a decent O-line, his stats would be 10x better

He's not the first RB to run behind a bad line. Everyone else, without exception, has either figured out a way to get it done or has gotten replaced.

I've been trying to make this point for months now, but the Gordon haters aren't going to listen.

Or the line improved and that player finally got to show what he can do.

As a MG owner and also not a HUGE fan. I am a fantasy fan because of his volume. That trade is not close for me atoll. There is very few WR and RB i would sell him for.
