Should I be panicking

Postby fantasydem » Mon Sep 18, 2017 1:30 pm

For team 2 in my signature. Made a bunch of offseason moves which included sending all my picks next year off for players. I did all this in anticipation that my team would be competing every week and I'd be a top team. I know it's just week two but my team has been the lowest scoring team each week so far and that has obviously translated to a 0-2 start. Should I be panicking or at least trying to move some pieces or should I stay put and ride it out for now?

Nothing to panic about... I would be looking at another TE, potentially a RB... Maybe a QB but I like Stafford.

Might be worth dangling one of your WR's to see if you can get a package deal that a addresses a couple of those concerns.

Im personally floating Alshon pretty hard right now.

Not seeing a whole lot that can be done...that said I don't think that you need to panic. A 3rd RB or a 2nd QB would be great but your players who are down won't stay that way all year. AJ Green should be fine. If you feel good about Howard rebounding then maybe Cohen and Alshon for a top WR? If you are competing for this year than you might need to trade Mack and Cohen this year. Not saying that I would do that but it is an option.

I'm in a similar situation and it's frustrating, but I'm not panicking yet. If I'm sitting in the same situation in a couple of weeks I will be. Jordan Howard is concerning, but those WRs will be dynamite at some point.

Not quite sure I understand what people on this site consider "competing". I'd think 2 of the 3 best receivers and 4 of the top 15-18 receivers on a team along with a RB that finished top 10 last year & a solid workhorse in Hyde. QBs are obviously not a strong point but Staff, if my memory serves me right, finished top 10 last year leaving Eli as the lone dud would be considered competing but I could have my bias goggles on.

i don't think this team is that bad...
2 starting QBs
your RBs are a little shy of depth and jordan is definitely starting slow...
but with a group of WRs like AJ, Julio, OBJ, Alshon, Decker, MJones, TBenj, TWilliams i would hardly consider that a long painful rebuild
i agree about shopping alshon...you have some depth with decker and marvin, so try to get a RB and a pick...maybe crowell or abdullah or doug martin....
good luck

btw: you said you have one of the lowest scores this week, but eli has not played and i assume you have a spot for OBJ/marvin jones tonight too....so your week is not over

Fair point, and I'll explain more.

It's a 12-team SF league. Everyone in theory has a top-12 QB and top-24 QB. Everyone in theory has a top-12 RB and a top-24 RB. Everyone in theory has a top-12 WR and a top-24 WR. Everyone in theory has a top-12 TE. And everyone in theory two more top-36 RBs or WRs. That's your starting line-up.

Of course, it's never perfectly balanced. Some teams will have injuries, others will be rebuilding, and others will just suck at player evaluation. So, some teams will have far fewer than the typical starters. Those players must therefore be redistributed to other teams, meaning that other teams will have, say, two top-12 QBs and/or 2 flex players in the top-24 of their position rather than the top 36.

There's more.

Even if everyone has exactly the same number of top-X players, there is a hierarchy in those tiers. Some teams will have players at the top of the tiers and some at the bottom. Some, of course, will have multiple players at the top of those tiers.

Then, put those together. Every year, there will be at least a couple of teams with BOTH more players in the top-X of their position AND more players at the top of those tiers. Those are the teams that will likely compete for the championship.

When looking at your team, WR definitely fits the bill. TE is fine, too (though the depth is suspect). But, RB is just okay -- Howard is a mid-tier RB1 and Hyde a mid-tier or maybe upper-tier RB2, and you have limited depth. Can't compete with any team that has two top-12 RBs. And QB is wayyyyy behind; in an SF, it's the difference-making position.

And even though your top-3 WRs are elite, you don't have the depth behind them for bye weeks, injuries, or unexpected under-performances. Let's say that all three meet expectations, though: they can't overcome the glaring holes elsewhere. Throw in the fact that you have no 2018 draft pick ammo to improve your team, and I don't see where the wins come from. You need all three WRs to be their very best and you need some of your starters to far exceed expectations just to give yourself the chance to compete with the teams that are ahead of you. You have no room for misses. And no reinforcements coming.

Believe me, I'm not trying to be harsh but am trying to give you my honest assessment. Three stud WRs in an SF league can't overcome average-at-best starters at all other positions (except for TE) with no depth and no 2018 picks. Your realistic ceiling, IMO, is playing for third place... and there's no reason to expect improvement next year since you're already banking on getting your players' best production possible.

So, keep down this road, and, yeah, I agree that you'll have to endure a long painful rebuild as you struggle (and likely fail) to compete every year while your elite players age out of elite value.

I definitely appreciate the feed back. I personally thought I'd compete. Looks like I need to try and seek some moves. I did try and trade OBJ & Eli for Rodgers & Adams a couple weeks ago and he declined so I've been trying to upgrade at QB. I'm in no spot to give up on the season tho so I'm going to try to seek out some possible trades and turn in a better competing team.

other than your RB depth, this team is fine...(before injuries), i don't think i would "blow it up" ...
if you can trade alshon for a lower RB and a pick, i would make that move (due to your WR depth)

it is easy for everyone to say that RB is just okay...that is true due to Howard's slow start, but Howard was being drafted quite high in startups at the beginning of the season. cohen has become startable and hyde just had something like 45% of his team's production-he is no slouch and i would not look to move him.
the rough thing is that you won't have any picks to play with next year...again, team 2 below, i feel your pain...lost DJ and Arob...was hoping to take a championship this season...it might not happen...sad, but there is always next year. i panicked and others talked me off the ledge...patience...

Yeah that sucks. Injuries are definitely the most frustrating thing as far as a fantasy player is concerned. But I'm a true Hyde believer (own him in 5 of 7 leagues), have been from the get go so I hope he pays off.. for my sake haha. My worry is my QBs and I've tried addressing it but no luck so far.
