Ajayi+knee soreness=looking to trade

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Ajayi+knee soreness=looking to trade

Postby saw061600 » Fri Sep 15, 2017 2:53 am

I'm thinking of moving Ajayi while his value is still high. Knees were a concern which is why I got him in the 4th round his rookie year. Wondering who to target. Some options:
McCoy is on trade bait, owner also has Ameer: 2 for 1 grab? (feel this is a stretch but looking for opinions)
Hyde, who has looked good, is owned by owner of DJ and Ajayi has the hype: Hyde+ pick maybe? (1st too much?)

Hyde seems the guy to go after, his value is still down and Ajayi's still high. Thoughts appreciated.

I could see you doing something like Hyde/1st for Ajayi/2nd.

I feel like Ajayi is going to have a monster TD year upcoming. Cutler is the spark that offense needed. Ajayi is the top option inside the 10 and I think he has a real chance of leading the NFL in TDs this season (bold?).

That said, if you are concerned about the knees, I like the trade I suggest here.

Everyone always talks about Ajayi's poor knees... but he's never missed any time because of them has he? I'd love to get Ajayi in a different league from a panicking owner

Not in a panic at all, looking to sell high and reduce risk at a position that inherently carries the highest percentage of risk for skilled positions already. I'll keep and ride out his potential points and injuries if unable to get full value.

Wait till he has a good game or two before trading him.

Ha, exactly what I was thinking too but looking ahead so I can start the trade wheels turning. Little comments here and there to get the hype going.

His knee is bone and bone, he could lose effectiveness overnight which is exactly why the OP is looking to shop him.

I reached out to the DJ/Hunt/Gurley/Hyde/Riddick owner and the response was priceless. "You're crazy. With DJ down temporarily I can't afford to give up any running backs. Especially with team using multiple backs (I'm assuming he meant that he has a few stud RBs compared to the many teams that are RBBC). But (wait for it) my WRs suck. Except for Theilen".

Classic "I need" but "I'm not giving up anything" thinking. Oh well, moving on to other options.

As long as the knee is stable the arthritis isn't that scary. I never read anything regarding problems or swelling. He has already had an injury scare this year.....a concussion. Anyone can get hurt at anytime. His knee doesn't scare me anymore than Bells middle foot injury. However if you are gonna get agitated every time they rest him during the year I would move him now. I have always Hyde is one of the most overrated running backs so I would aim a little higher. I just turned down an offer of dez Bryant for him. Wait till after this game, which should be solid. Aim higher than Hyde

It is somewhat troubling that he's dealing with soreness in his knee even before his first game. Is this the year that he starts missing practices on a weekly basis due to swelling? Would they start limiting his touches to manage the wear and tear on his knee? Personally I'd feel more secure rostering Hyde.

I'd trade Ajayi for Hyde + peace of mind

If this is your mentality, trading
Ajayi for the most injury prone RB in the league is not the solution.

Pursue a deal where you get a WR that you like and a serviceable RB. If you don't like that, at least go for an RB that carries less injury risk than Hyde.

It is potentially scary because his cartilage is allegedly degenerative. So in a few years, it's possible that he won't be able to handle much, if any physicality. Who knows if that's the reason for the current soreness, but that is the reason why he was flagged by NFL teams during the draft.

Regardless of the injury, this is a great time to sell high on Ajayi.

Thanks for the ideas/feedback given. Good stuff (except for the suggestions of panicking...pffft!)
Anyway, reached out to Diggs owner thinking maybe Diggs+RB+picks could happen. Response: "Only guy I'm interested in from your roster is Evans". Oh, I bet you are...I bet you are. So, this is for team 1, not exactly a low stud player team. Maybe I'll just ride it out this year and see what happens.
