AJ Green for Watkins/OJ Howard/Mid-Late 2018 First

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

AJ Green for Watkins/OJ Howard/Mid-Late 2018 First

Postby carsoncity » Thu Sep 14, 2017 8:46 pm

I would be giving Green. Here's my roster

12 Team Standard - 18 man rosters
1QB/3WR/2RB/1TE/DST/K

QBs: Dak, Wentz
WRs: AJG, Martavis Bryant, Zay Jones, Kenny Golladay, Taylor Gabriel, Paul Richardson, Perriman
RBs: Melvin Gordon, Christian McCaffery, Derrick Henry, D'Onta Foreman, CJ Prosise, Gio Bernard
TE: Hunter Henry
IR: Allen Robinson, Dede Westbrook

I feel like losing ARob for this year is gonna make it hard for me to stay in contention but who knows. The idea behind selling Green is he's getting older, Dalton looks bad under pressure and the offense has been completely dysfunctional after letting their talented o-lineman walk this offseason.

Still might not be good value for Green however, what do y'all think?

Yeah, great move for your team. I like the way your seeing this and that looks like a good return for AJ Green. It's time to cash out.

I like that move, and with Andy Dalton playing like he's been, AJG value could be dropping like a rock in a couple more weeks. You could maybe get a little better player than Sammy in there, but I don't think its worth the risk of the deal falling through and then AJG not even being worth Sammy/OJ/1st

Thanks guys, I'm definitely considering it

What gives me pause is that it's still only the second year of this league, so there are no clear contenders/rebuilders yet. I jockeyed for a young team but as 6/12 teams make the playoffs I still want to stay competitive. trading AJG would probably seal my fate as a rebuilder, maybe not. Watkins is still a huge question mark, and while I like Howard, in a smaller league like this it's tough to roster 2 QBs and 2 TEs.

Also AJGs schedule coming up: GB, CLE, BUF, PIT, IND

definitely some soft defenses here. Maybe I'm overreacting to 2 games?

i would sell green for that, would be nicer to have an early/mid first rather than late-ish but OJ was a 1st round pick and would be great to pair with henry and play matchups with moving forward. you can easily have 2 qb and 2 te with richardson and gabriel never likely to see your lineup. you also get many extra years of a top WR if sammy stays healthy and finds his groove in the offense.
team 1
12 team, 1 pt for 4 rec, 0.1 per rush
1qb, 3 rb, 4 wr, te, k, 4 idp
Dak , Herbert
Achane, Breece Hall, KW3Kyren,Ford, Miller, Spiller, z evans, singletary
J Jefferson, Diggs, DK, D Smith Puka, C Watson, E Moore
Njoku , HH, Engram

2024 picks
1,3,4,5,5,6,7 (all late mostly)

team 2
12 team .5ppr
qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, te, flx,flx,
Fields, Dak
Ford,Mixon, Javonte, Mostert, Chubb, Spears
Hopkins, Evans, g Wilson Mingo, shaheed, Jamo
Kelce,McBride, Chig,

1,2,3,3,5

team 3
14 team sf, even scoring idp to offense (rb scores highly too)
Josh Allen, A Rich, Foles, Rudolph
Bijan, Charbs, Spears, Ebner
J Williams, G Wilson, C Watson, Flowers, J Addison, Tillman
Kincaid, Kolar, Ruckert, Fergeson

Kenny Clark, josh allen, jaelen phillips, felix a-u and a bunch of fluff and rookie fliers at idp

I think it's fair. I'd lean slightly towards Watkins side.

Close, like the Sammy side but think keeping AJ makes more sense for your team

I make the deal since your team looks solid but most likely not a top 3 team without rob
10 team, .5 ppr dynasty
QB: Brady, Wilson
RB: Fournette, cook, mixon, Ajayi, Gordon, Ware, Joe Williams, Hunt, Martin
WR: Evans, TY, Dez, Sammy, Coleman, Diggs, Ross, White, Fitz
TE: Watson, Eifert, Bennet

PPR 12 team superflex, limited devy (1 per year) heavy return yardage
Cousins, Rivers, Kizer
Fournette, Zeke, Mixon, mcCaffrey, Joe Williams, Mcnichols, Mack, Martin
Cooper, Evans, Watkins, Coleman, Diggs, Martavis, Chad Williams, Parker
Henry, Rudolph, Hodges

i think it's certainly a close call. Just curious-- why do you think AJ makes sense for my team? Because of general WR question marks?

Gotta pass on this one.

Each of the pieces that you'd be receiving in return has legitimate value, but none has any reliability. Not trading Green for three dart throws. Plus, in a smaller league, those extra roster spaces are GOLD when you're retooling. There will be players with immediate enough productivity that would, on a game-by-game basis, put up decent numbers. And you'll also want those spots to pick up and then trade guys.

This might look fair enough on paper, but there's a looowwwww floor here along with a huge roster opportunity cost. No way I trade Green with both of those factors in place.

Yeah the roster space is what really gave me pause initially. I'm just worried about missing my window to return value on Green. Gonna be 30 next year. I know youth is generally overrated in dynasty but Watkins is only gonna be 24 next year. The problem is that OJ isn't necessarily a big piece for my team, it's shallow enough to stream TE. The FRP will almost certainly be late too because it's going to a team that looks pretty good. This is a tough one

Two quick questions:

1) Are you going to win this year?

2) Will you get this kind of deal next year?

I would do it. I sold AJG/CoCo in the summer for Gordon, 8th, and 10th picks. I happier now. I still think AJG will do well this year...well maybe. But with your team, I would pull the trigger.

I think I still have a shot the make the playoffs and since it's only year 2 in this league, no team is really dominant. If my WRs continue to struggle I probably don't have a shot, and there's also no rea depth behind Gordon and CMC if Foreman and Henry don't carve out starting roles.

For next year I have no idea what kind of deal I could get for AJG. If the bengals struggle all year and AJG turns 30, it makes me worry
