Trade back from 1.01 to 1.05? UPDATED W/ TRADE

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade back from 1.01 to 1.05? UPDATED W/ TRADE

Postby doublesticks » Thu Aug 24, 2017 12:13 pm

If you didn't have a strong preference between the RBs and had multiple early picks (3 of top 4 and 6 of the top 12), would you trade back a few spots to pick up another top 15 pick?

I'm thinking about it and the 1.05 owner is interested.

I rate the top 5 like this as of today...

1. Davis

LF/Mixon/CMC - I am completely torn and could make a case for any of them as #1 or #3 in this group...which is why I'm posting this question

5.Cook

I don't want to overthink it, but I see what I think is almost a no-lose opportunity for me. I mean, the worst case scenario for me is Davis going at 1.03 and I end up with 2 of those 3 RBs that I rank equal plus Cook, which is still a pretty good outcome...while I bank pick #15

###Update###
Went back and forth for a few days, finally reached a deal and accepted last night.

Traded picks 1 & 21 for 5, 15 and Corey Coleman.
I threw him Tyler Lockett, but he was going to be cut when I announced my keepers, so he didn't cost me anything as the deal was the picks and Coleman.

Pretty happy to know that with the emergence of Hunt in this KC homer league, I'm likely going to have my choice of 3 of Mixon, CMC, Cook and Davis

Makes sense but I think you can get more from the guy who is moving up 4 spots than an early 2nd.
QB (1) - A.Rodgers,J.Love,W.Levis,B.Mayfield,Darnold,J.Brisset,Corral
RB (2) - Bijan,Charbonnet,R. Mostert, Zeke, Allgeier,K. Hunt,Hubbard, J.Ford, M. Gaskin
WR (2) - Nuk, M. Evans ,OBJ, T.Thornton, P. Nacua, K Boutte, P. Campbell Zaccheaus,W Fuller, Cobb, T.Patrick
TE (1) - Schultz, Hooper,Kmet,T.Kraft
SFlex (2) - any qb/rb/wr/te

0.25 PPR
12 team league, 37 player rosters + IR, 5 round rookie draft each year.

It depends how you view the top five. Imo, they're all virtually equal in value and you could make a compelling argument for each player at 1.1. For that reason, I'd do exactly what you're thinking. Trade down to 1.5 and get anything additional that I can. I'd Ask for a late first, but would be willing to settle for an early 2nd
QB: D. Watson, T. Taylor, J. Driskel, J. Johnson, C. Rush, N. Sudfeld, M. White
RB: C. McCaffrey, C. Carson, K. Johnson, R. Penny, J. Samuels, D. Pumphrey
WR: J.J. Smith-Schuster, R. Woods, L. Fitzgerald, J. Nelson, M. Gallup R. Switzer, B. Berrios, C. Batson, R. Higgins, J. Kearse
TE: G. Kittle, I. Thomas, J Doyle, W. Dissly, J. Leggett, J. Gresham, T. Conklin
16 Team Dynasty (PPR). Lineup: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, TE, FLEX, SFLEX

I totally agree with it being light and I know I probably could get much more in most leagues, but this league is different as it is my 12 year local league with my old softball buddies. It isn't a true dynasty, it is a 10 player salary cap keeper with 4 man taxi...you kind of have to zig when they zag in this league sometimes...in this case I'm trying to leverage LF into an extra pick because I don't think I would take him right now.

Your heads are probably going to explode when you read this, but I actually approached him with the idea...I think the biggest reason is that I just don't trust Fournette, who I have no doubt will be the #1 pick if I trade it. Also, I am operating under the assumption that #3 is only going RB and Davis would fall to #4 in just about any scenario where I don't take him in the top 2 picks.

Think about this from my point of view, I've started to sour on LF enough that I don't think I'd take him until #4. So if I take Davis and Mixon, #3 goes LF for free and I likely go CMC at #4. That is a great situation for me.

Or I could let him take the 1.01 to get LF, I still get Mixon, #3 very likely takes CMC or Cook and I come back with Davis and the other RB and still get the 15th pick. If I get the same players and net a top 15 pick out of it, it is at least worth thinking about...also a great situation for me, and possibly better.

Which do you prefer?
Mixon
Davis
Cook/CMC

or

Mixon
Davis
Cook/CMC
JuJu or package up 15 with the other 2nds and move up to the mid-late 1st

The crazy thing is that I think I'll only have 3 picks left after I select at 3.02 in a 12 round draft if I make this deal and we redraft half our team each year. Also, I have picks 1, 2, 4, 10, 11, 12, 21 & 22 in the first 3 rounds, so there might be opportunities to trade up a little later as well, but not much of a chance to get a 2018 1st.

Like I said, this league is different and a guy that probably hasn't made more than 3 trades in the last 3 years is interested, so I figured I'd at least explore it and bounce if off you guys for feedback as I wait for my draft to approach next week.

Also, just to noticed that Beast Mode will be in this draft as well, so another rookie will probably drop to me at 1.10.

I agree that you should get more than that 2nd but by the sound of it, you know your league and it's not likely you'll get a first tossed in from anyone else. If the guy you're dealing with doesn't have another one, it's a moot point. No point doing this with the guy with 1.6 or 1.7 as you'd be dropping from that top5 tier. I get what you're saying and if you aren't sold on LF, no need to use that pick on one of the others who will drop to you! I say go for it.

Looks like you did well. I like Cook more than Fournette anyways, so to me, you got the 15th pick and Coleman for free.
