Pick 1.05 - Cook or Howard

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Pick 1.05 - Cook or Howard

Postby DynastyDeepDive » Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:00 am

I'm so torn here and need some help. Rookie draft on Wed.

I'm assuming these two will remain at #5. Love Howard long term but I'm a bit weak at RB. Just not a huge Cook fan.

I've been trying to trade back but nobody is interested. I like Hunt and was hoping to drop back to like #8 to maybe grab him.

What should I do. Leaning towards Howard as he could be a beast and love winston tossing him the ball.
In too many leagues to list players. Check out my Dynasty Deep Dive!

Gotta go with you your gut and make the pick you think you want. Having said that, I personally would take Cook over Howard.

Cook. People were saying he was the #2 pick before the draft. Then the vikes drafted him. They upgraded their line and he should be the starter by mid season, if not earlier. Our draft went..LF, Mixon, Davis, Cook, MCC, Hunt, Perine, Williams, Ross, Howard. So I dont know if Hunt would be there are 8 for you anyway....if that is your plan.

I would take Cook...despite the fact he fell in the actual NFL draft, he has been running with the 1st team in Vikings camp due to latavius murray being injured. Cook is a superior talent to murray as well. I would take Cook easily here unless there is some weird, crazy bonuses to TEs

I'm a Viking fan and it's definitely a less than ideal situation for Cook, but he's still the clear #5 pick.

#1 or 2 before the draft

Vikings, with a horrible injury damaged O-line who picked up Murray for 5 mil draft him and Cook's stock understandably drops

Since then, the panic has subsided and people remember Cook is an elite back and that the Minnesota situation isn't as horrible as it seemed to be on draft night

O-line has been reasonably improved this off season and the biggest problem last year was all the injuries. I belive they set a record with 12 different starting linemen during the season. We had practice squad backups out there in nfl games. Guys are healthy, and hopefully stay that way. It'll still be a below average line, but 20thish ranking, not 32nd

Murray is hurt. Out all of camp and possibly into the season. What looked like a committee from hell for sure now has Cook the starter. He has a chance to prove himself and when Murray comes back, possibly he only gets a change of pace back role instead of splitting touches or leading the committee.

With Mike Williams back issues, I can see him sliding behind OJ. But Cook should still be in front and only behind LF, Mixon, and McCaf for backs

You'll regret taking a TE over Cook.

Cook all day long. I loved watching this guy in college. He went from being the potential 1.01 pre-combine/draft to now flying under the radar. The guy can do it all. Rookie TEs just take way to long to pan out.
12 Team 0.5 PPR. 25 man roster. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex.
QB - Russell Wilson, Matt Stafford
RB - Leondard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Jamaal Williams, Chris Carson, CJ Prosise
WR - Keenan Allen, Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay, Chirs Godwin, Keelan Cole, Quincy Enunwa
TE - Zach Ertz, Eric Ebron, Austin Seferian-Jenkins

2018 Picks - 1.01, 2.04

16 Team 0.5 PPR. 20 man roster. Start 1 QB, 1 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex.
QB - Marcus Mariota, Trevor Siemian
RB - Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Jamaal Williams, Alex Collins
WR - AJ Green, TY Hilton, Donte Moncrief, Davante Adams, Will Fuller, Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Golladay
TE - Austin Hooper, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, George Kittle

2018 Picks - None

Cook easily here. I have him ahead of Davis and McCaffrey in standard league.

I LOVE Howard, but you gotta go with Cook. He still is a good back. His game speed is better than his combine. He did drop, but not really that far like some people make it out to be.

I'm taking Cook. He was the #1 or #2 prospect in February and now you can get him at 5.

It's insane to me how the opinion swayed on Cook so much. When everyone saw him play for three years, he was in the talks as the #1 overall pick. He has a subpar day in shorts and people don't even want him at #5.

The OP said he's not "high" on Cook. It's very difficult to point to game tape with a clear cut reason why. Watch what Cook was doing against Michigan in his final game while guys like McCaffrey abandoned their teammates.

Being able to get a talent like Cook at #5 is one of those rare value miscalculations by the dynasty community that if you take advantage of - could set you up to compete for years. Go with the over-reaction of the herd - and you'll make the person with pick 1.06 ecstatic.
