Was this a horrible trade? Or am I biased?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Was this a horrible trade? Or am I biased?

Postby hockeyBjj » Fri Jul 28, 2017 6:28 am

So, the team that finished dead last in our league two years in a row just made this trade with the team that won the league 3 years running now. Is it a fair deal? Or am I biased because we all just want him to not win again

Loser team traded away Marshawn Lynch and Danny Woodhead

Winnning team gave up Charles Simms, Conley Chris, and a 2018 3rd

Earlier this off season, the horrible owner also parted ways with Tom Brady who went to the champ. I forget what he got in return though

I just do not think anyone else has a chance with the team that has won 3 years in a row, now adding Tom Brady, Marshawn Lynch, and Danny Woodhead post Dixon being out all year.

It is a bad trade....a very bad trade...

....but, I wouldn't be too worried. Woodhead always gets injured and we have no idea what Lynch has going on this year. Both guys are just hype pieces right now.

I don't see how this trade is bad other than the sense that the worst team traded these players to the best team and that makes the league sour because on paper the best team got better.

In reality Simms could be a younger woodhead and Getting Conley and a 3rd for Lynch isn't awful. Lynch is valued around a 2nd for a contender and conley SHOULD have an increased role this year. I personally wouldn't have made those moves but it isn't horrible.

We have a similar situation on our league. Bottom dweller is in full fire sale mode. His has indicated his thought process is he'll take best offer for all his old guys. Since there is very little activity in our league (unless its a one-sided trade), he makes some lopsided deals. He recently sold Jimmy Graham and Frank Gore to the dominant team in our league for Joe Williams and Josh Reynolds. Not as bad as above, but still too cheap imo. But if no one else is willing to make an offer, he takes what he can get.

Based on value (I have seen Lynch go early in rookie/FA drafts...late 1st/early 2) I think it was a terrible deal...just curious, does the bad team always make terrible deals with the good team, or do they make terrible deals with all the teams?

So the best team added 2 RBs who are both already in their 30s by giving up young pieces. Conley could very well be the best piece in this deal just in 2017.

Very bad trade, should never be agreed to. The losing owner should be evaluated by commissioner on whether they are bad for the league based on the fact they have no clue. In the end, these types of trades are bad for the league as a whole. Object if possible....

A valid point, but then the question is, what is the rush? Lynch and Woodhead's values will only increase during the season. Barring injury, if they put up respectable low RB1 or high RB2 numbers in season you could get much more from a contending team who may have lost their starter to injury or aren't getting production from their big name players. I think he sold both as low as you possibly could.

I didn't say it was a good deal just the probable outcome. Lynch is already at peak value today and Woodhead just gained all the value he was going to with the announcement that Dixon is out for the year. He should have been able to get more, no doubt. Bottom feeders make bad deals. That's what got them on the bottom and keep them there. Ultimately, I don't see this deal having any significant impact to either club.

Disagree completely with this. The pieces here aren't big enough to have any real impact on your league as a whole. It's not a trade I'd do, but it's not worth getting upset over.

That said, if all his "bad deals" are with the same team, there's some cause for concern.

Um...this is a perfectly fine trade. I personally value Marshawn Lynch as a late 1st, but I've heard many, many people say that they value him as a 3rd. Danny Woodhead can't stay healthy, and many are optimistic about Chris Conley if they don't believe in Tyreek Hill. Charles Sims is just a receiving back, but he's a flex play in PPR. This is just different owners valuing players differently (which is exactly why contending teams trade with rebuilding teams).

I probably wouldn't give up anything more than that for Lynch and Woodhead myself (probably not even that), but I guess he could have gotten more from another owner since so many people here believe Lynch is worth a 1st round pick.
