Ty Montgomery for ?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Ty Montgomery for ?

Postby craigii » Mon Jul 24, 2017 7:01 pm

For team #2 in signature. I have the 1.01 and plan to use it on a RB. I was thinking of holding on to Montgomery, but it seems his value might be a point where I consider moving him. I have been offered the 2.10 and a 2018 1st, which projects to be a mid to late round pick. Having his upside was appealing, but it seems like an offer I should give some thought to. What do you guys think?

I'd take the pics. The 2018 pick could turn out really well and the 2.10 still provides some nice value.

I actually really like Ty Mont. I drafted him in all but one of my rookie drafts when he came out and traded for him wherever I didn't own him. With that said, I would take the 'safer' asset and cash out for an early-mid 2018 1st+ if it's on the table.

Even if he hits, I struggle to see him being worth 1.01-1.04 in a strong class when rookie drafts start happening next off-season. Trading him for a likely 1.04-1.08 now gives you a roster value increase at his ceiling value while eliminating the many risks. The value of the pick is guaranteed to remain stable and then increase next April.

Ty is 24 years old, has good size, is an excellent receiver (your league is PPR), and is the lead RB on a high-powered offense. Oh, and he averaged 5.9 YPC last year while catching 44 passes, his first year converting to RB. No, a late 2nd and a late future 1st isn't close to good value.

Rookie fever is really dragging him down lately. Somehow a 4th and a 5th round draft pick are locks to take over the backfield I guess? Yes, the pick will increase in value by next year, though not by much if it's actually late as you estimate, but it's not going to score you any fantasy points in the mean time. Also, if Ty is solid this year he'll absolutely be worth more than a late 1st this time next year.

Also, you're not so deep at RB that you can afford to do this, even if your 1.01 turns into a startable RB as a rookie.

I'd keep Ty, you're not deep enough at RB to justify selling a Starting RB with upside.

This
x3.. Been a big believer in Jamaal right after he was drafted. Even though everyone told me I was crazy to think he would outplay Montgomery. Take the picks with this deal, you are getting your future back at 1.01 and you could very well end up with Jamaal at 2.10 like mentioned before. I personally value Ty as an early-mid 2nd in Rookie Drafts so the 1st is cake for me to take this deal.

^ this... nailed it. Everyone seems low on him to give him up for middling picks... a converted WRplaying RB in a PPR league? Yes please! Rb in Aaron Rgoers offense? Yes Please! I don't see you getting anyone with those picks that will impact your roster as much as Montgomery. I will concede this is a good sell high time for him though if you're not sold.
