Team assessment. Contender or rebuild? **Update**l

Postby DJB » Sat Jul 22, 2017 1:56 pm

Standard scoring non ppr. 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 2 TE.

So we must start two TE and a 14 teamer. I will be drafting 1. 08, 2. 08, 3. 08, 4. 08

Tyrod, Goff
Hyde, Crowell, Ingram,
Dez, Jordy, K Allen, M Williams, Britt,
Gronk, Cook, Witten, McDonald, Higbee

I really feel like its time to rebuild. My team is older, I lack depth, QB and RB are big question marks. Am i wrong or am i still a contender in a 14 teamer?

I think you've got a solid run left in your team this year if healthy. The downside of trying to compete this year means those ageing assets will be worth less next year. There's not much depth but you'll be a playoff team if you avoid injuries. This could be the best time to sell high on Dez,Gronk and Nelson though but you've got another run left if that's the path you choose.

I'd make some tweaks here and there, but wouldn't go into a full on rebuild.

If you stay healthy you will probably make the playoffs, and once there 'anything can happen'. During the season I'd be looking to trade Dez, Jordy, Gronk, Ingram for assets slightly lower in value but younger and appreciating. I suggest always trying to improve your team, and if done well, you never get to 'full rebuild' mode.

Doubt you get that, but if you can that's a home run. Add some other pieces if need to get it done. I think your team is a contender as is, but this would help a lot long term.

Since you're in discussion perhaps you can pull this deal off? I agree that if you could make this 3-for-2 that it helps you long term and doesn't kill your chances in 2017. This deal alone could help you avoid a complete teardown.

I'm not 100% sure what happens after you go through with that trade considering it's double TE? You play Cook/Whitten and hope for the best? Hopefully your league has some under the radar TEs you can nab - it's just that TE can dry up so fast...overall I think you're making the right move though.

I was thinking along the same lines. But even in a TE premium, at the end of the day are you worried about TE production in the short term when rebuilding? Evans and Mike Thomas could still be viable assets in a few years when his team is ready to compete.

That's not something I'd feel comfortable projecting for Gronk.

I'm trying to do another side deal involving K Allen, Cook and one of my RBS for Olsen or Kelce depending on how the trade shakes out. I'm gunning for Kelce obviously so well see in about a week (when my draft takes place and trades can begin) if I can get them done.

I suppose my goal is to retool not rebuild whereby I trade older assets even if I pay quite a bit for younger appreciating assets and still stay in the hunt.

So the Thomas deal fell apart unfortunately. The Kelce owner and i have been discussing a Gronk, Ingram for Kelce Luck and other pieces.

I may have another deal i can jump on but it basically means I'm not competing this year. Pick 1. 07 for Jordy Nelson.

Its a very strong offer and i am seriously considering it.

We are at pick 1. 06 and players left include Williams and Howard. 1. 06 isnt moving .

Am i crazy not to take that deal? Or should i stay and add pieces to contend for the Championship?
