Carr or Newton?

Postby AP Time28 » Tue Jul 18, 2017 11:17 am

I'm a big Newton fan and made an offer of Carr for Newton. The guy came back and said Carr and a 2018 2nd for Newton. Isn't their value about the same or does a 2nd need to be added? I appreciate any input you give

rather have Carr tbh, better receiving corps, better OL, up and coming defense and he's not coming off of shoulder surgery

The 2nd is on the wrong side, and even then I might still go with Carr.

It doesn't really matter what is "fair" or what the consensus value is. You obviously value Newton more than Carr, or you wouldn't offer Carr for Newton.
He probably values Newton more than Carr based on his counter.
If you want to get Newton and use Carr as the main piece, adding a second is not much of a premium to pay to get the QB you want.

Carr, unless Cam improves his short pass game. He has a couple awesome yac guys now that could make him look real good..

1) By "value", Carr is worth more to most than Cam.

2) I'm with you, OP: I prefer Cam.

3) But, you lost your leverage when you made the offer. I don't know if the other guy prefers Cam or not, but he KNOWS that you prefer Cam.

4) You can play hardball and stick to your guns or offer a lesser pick, or you can bite the bullet and get your guy. I wouldn't blame you either way.

As for me, even though I prefer Cam, I think that a 2nd is too high a price to pay to upgrade from Carr.

I would have them fairly even myself. If u really prefer one to the other, I'd have no problem sticking a 2nd onto one of them to get the other if that's your guy

Ugh... Don't like either guy to be honest. There's a lot of potential for regression from Carr given the change in offense and if that run game falls apart due to a Lynch injury, he could be forced into more deep throws, which will not end well.

With Cam, I expect some improvement in his passing game, but I think his days of elite rushing numbers are probably over. I'm not sure improved receivers underneath is going to help much, but maybe. I'm also a bit worried about the organization with the strange firing of Gettleman.

The firing of Gettleman essentially guarantees that Olsen stays with the team for the long term, and doesn't go the way of Jordan Gross, Steve Smith, Deangelo Williams and Josh Norman... Getts had a way of tossing out the aging vets (right or wrong) once he felt they no longer offered the team solid long term value... Mr Richardson simply said 'enough', and decided to make a change...

What worries me more about Cam (and you'll find no bigger Cam fan than me!) is that I agree, I believe his elite running days are over... I believe the OL is better than what people make it out to be, which should be reflected in his passing numbers, but let's be honest, his biggest asset for our game was the fact that you could count on him to get 500 yards and 10 scores on his own... I bet you can cut that in half... now, does the assumed improvement in his passing game (given the offense's new weapons) equal the assumed dropoff in his personal game... That's a huge question mark, and remains to be seen... Hopefully, from a dynasty standpoint, it's a wash AND serves to extend his prime by 2 or 3 more years...

For me, I still like Cam over Carr... But in 3 years, maybe I don't... Carr is 2 years younger (26 vs 28) and his style is more conducive to a longer career than Cam's is... If I were presented with this exact trade, I'd definitely be thinking hard about hitting the accept button, and trying to get all the advice I could... To me, the 2nd rounder is inconsequential... I routinely trade them like I'm mad at them... The key weighing point here for me would be simply, which QB offers me the best long term value for the position and is the short term difference between the two negligible enough for me to be able to still win now with whichever QB I choose... there's the question for me...

Give me Cam this year and next... Then I think I want Carr... Given playing styles, I think there's a better chance of Cam turning into Donovan McNabb and Carr turning into Eli Manning (speaking solely in terms of career longevity, and their effectiveness at those stages of their careers)...
