trade value calculators

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

trade value calculators

Postby BigBawseRoss » Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:04 am

anyone else absolutely despise that these exist??? or that Dave Richard makes a weekly chart telling you what your players are worth? lol I think its the worst concept ever but I have a guy in a league who is an active trader and he let me know he uses one when thinking about a deal and I was shocked because he's very into FF so to rely on a tool like that seemed silly to me. but is it as dumb as I think? I'm hoping yes haha

Only time they are cool is if someone in your league uses them and you know this because it can help you pull off great trades. Otherwise yes they are dumb!

I love finding out when guys use these and I tend to get players I want cheaper, Use the tool to your advantage. Find out what one he uses the most and then with your elevation on players see what is a steal for you but shows him getting the better side on the calculator. These guys never turn down what appears to be a good trade.

Use it to your advantage. Trade calculators are a joke. And if someone in your league uses them for trades, it means you have the upper edge.

I say calling them a joke is a bit too much, thought I get where you are coming from. Yes, when you know someone in your league uses one, then use it to your advantage.

I do think they have a place for guys new to fantasy football, especially dynasty, and sometimes as a sense check , but you really need to be coming up with your own values and ranks, and factoring in your own specific team needs
Dynasty - 9th year, 12-team, Standard scoring, 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2FLEX, 1K, 1DE/DT, 1LB, 1CB/S - 25man roster / 6 Taxi Squad

IMO... Trade calculators should be a tool but not gospel. That being said I disagree they are "dumb" they are just a piece of the pie. Everyone has differing opinions and so they can serve a limit purpose but are very very seldom very useful as a stand alone "thou shall" since are not able take into consideration all variables. Your brain should be the "final" trade calculator.

This. I have a rb evaluation spread sheet I made out that had me taking David Johnson in the first round. Charts and evaluation spreadsheets have a place, but not a gospel.

They are fun to use, but I never use them to truly evaluate a trade. If there is a deal that I am torn on, I will go use it to see what it says. Even if it says it is a good deal for me, it doesn't mean I will end up taking it.

Use them as an aid. They allow quarters for a dollar and don't know league settings, etc that affect value. I'll use them as a guide if I'm unsure on sending an offer or to make sure someone else's offer is as bad as I think

For a forum that doesn't seem to mind the existence of adp, y'all really hate trade calculators. I'm sure there are some formula tweaking, but a trade calculator is just an adp comparison machine. If someone uses too much then sure it is bad, but to throw a trade in and see how it compares to your own evaluation is completely fine. I've had many a time I thought a trade was bad/good and after throwing it in the calculator I'm able to see the other side of it. No bug deal.

I'm not a fan of trade calculators at all. But if your trade partner is, find a deal that's in your favor, but one that the trade calculator says is fair and send it to them and see if they'll accept it then.

I guess you can stretch it to this argument but then that assumes that you can assign value to a draft spot. i.e. 1.01 is X number of points, 1.02 is worth a certain amount of points less and so on. It assumes that if you add up enough of these arbitrary points you will have enough to buy a player of a certain point total. That is what makes trade calculators flawed and a useless tool.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

ADP is only good if you're comparing two players, and even then, it comes down to personal preference for most. If you're trying to do a 2 for 1 or anything more than that, ADP becomes somewhat worthless as well.

I find them fun to look at and might use them as a sense check tool, but that is only a small part of the over all trade evaluation process.

I use a trade calc for every trade I make. The calc works better than my brain. I don't overpay for my favorite players or get less than I should for players I don't like. The calc is for people who realize that trades should be made by ADP value and not personal opinion, because I'm not necessarily any better at predicting things than the fantasy community as a whole.
