Whether all the repliers above "see" it or not is irrelevant. There's a reason these stories are out there. It tends to work like this: A retired player gets curious about returning BUT doesn't want to embarrass himself if no one wants him. So, his PR people and reps put out some stories like the ones we're reading to test the waters. It grows legs when local newspapers start fantasizing about that player coming to their team.

Then... if there appears to be some interest. That player will come out and talk about it. Cue Calvin talking about his retirement AND about the Marshawn situation. That's when these things start getting real.

THEN - yesterday - you saw just how real. The Lions actually fear he might do this (it would seriously screw them up cap wise if he did return since they weren't planning for him). So they called his bluff and actually invited him to training camp. That wasn't a feel-good PR move. That was the Lions "trying" to call Calvin's bluff and making him think he is stuck with the Lions no matter what. In reality, they can't afford him without making serious cuts.

Today, Calvin's agents are telling him not to worry about the Lions and he has a path to playing on another team if he wants. Whether he does or not is a coin flip. Is he worth a stash over whoever the 25th or so guy on our rosters is? Considering we tend to churn that spot all season anyway... I don't see the harm in grabbing him for a few weeks just in case and then dumping him for a hot training camp performer if it doesn't come to fruition.

I don't see why he would. Its not like the Lions have any shot at a title this year and they won't release him.

I picked him up in my leagues until the season starts see what happens. Maybe I can end up flipping him for a 2nd or something.

Even if he does come back, he's fools gold at best. 32 (September), Bad hips, bad knees, busted fingers and he's been away for a year. He'll be healthy for 5 games, a decoy for 7 games and won't even dress for the other 4. Plus he's had zero time to build rapport with an offense. If you add him, flip him as fast as you can.

CBS has an article about how he felt like a prisoner with the lions. Says he wont ever come back as a player because the lions said they wouldnt release him

This only way he comes back is if hes able to sign where he wants to get a ring NE, Atl, Pitt but Detroit is doing to him what they did to Barry Sanders, I'm sure he wants to play but its on his terms now without and cards
