Cooper/Dak for Evans

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Cooper/Dak for Evans

Postby chris_dub » Tue Jul 04, 2017 8:54 pm

This is a big money, 14-team semi-dynasty league with some salaries and contracts. Standard scoring with .5 PPR; Pass TD's are 5 pts. All contracts stay with the players, and at expiration they are dropped to the FA pool for the August auction (we now get the option to franchise tag a player at the end of their contract for a fee). We have a $200 hard limit and all players not under contract are currently dropped. Drafted rookies start at $0 and go up in price each year.

One owner severely wants Cooper from me, but I have been holding out for Evans in return.

His offer currently on the table:
Mike Evans ($10/2 years)
--for--
Amari Cooper ($3/2 years) & Dak Prescott ($2/3 years)

Evans finished WR2, Cooper WR12 and Dak QB6 last season

My current roster:
QB: Matt Ryan ($17/2), Dak Prescott ($2/3)
RB: Dalvin Cook ($0/4), Rob Kelley ($3/2), Shane Vereen ($12/+), Chris Thompson ($10/1)
WR: AJ Green ($10/2), Amari Cooper ($3/2), Kenny Stills ($3/1)
TE: Jimmy Graham ($10/1), Austin Hooper ($1/2)

His current roster:
QB: Philip Rivers ($9/1), Andy Dalton ($9/2), Jared Goff ($5/3), Nick Foles ($1/2)
RB: Jay Ajayi ($9/+), Lamar Miller ($56/1), Duke Johnson ($3/2), Gio Bernard ($27/1)
WR: Antonio Brown ($10/2), Mike Evans ($10/2), Willie Snead ($14/2), Tavon Austin ($2/1), Paul Richardson ($1/3)
TE: Hunter Henry ($5/3), Jared Cook ($6/+)

I have been looking to trade Dak for RB help, so am not sure if I want to include him in a deal that doesn't have a RB coming back. He was basically my QB1B to Ryan last year, and was planning the same this season. I should also get some decent RB help in the FA auction. So am I getting too greedy if I ask for Duke Johnson as well in his proposed deal? Is Dak too much to give to bridge the gap between Evans and Cooper?

Since you only have to start 1 QB, I'd give that for Evans. Especially since he and Cooper are both on 2 year deals. You can always try to see if he'll throw on Duke, but I think it's a pretty good deal either way.

That was my first instinct for a counter, but just don't know if Duke is worth it for giving up an asset like Dak.

I like Dak a lot, but you're getting a top 2 startup player. It's not like you're trading Dak for Duke straight up. Especially since you already own Ryan and this is a 1QB league. If you want to keep Dak, maybe counter with Cooper and Ryan for Evans and a better piece than Duke. I don't see the incentive of keeping both QBs if you can upgrade other positions.

I don't feel like doing the maths, are there any negative implications to Evans salary vs what you're giving? If not, Evans all day

Not really, other than he costs more. He is $10 for the next two years, then I'll have to Franchise him for another year at $25.

Amari is on a progressive rookie deal, so he costs $3 this year then $4 for next season. He could be Franchised for an extra year at $15.

Dak is just $2 for the next 3 years.

That is definitely a factor I take into consideration, as Amari will cost $15 in Year 3, and $23 in Year 4 and so on...(franchise fee is 150% of previous year salary every time you tag the player). Whereas Evans will cost $25 for Year 3, then $38 for Year 4.

(For anybody wondering, the $15 initial franchise number is for drafted rookies...the $25 is for players who were put on "keeper deals" when we transitioned to a salary/contract league)

Evans is definitely the superior talent, but I think I like Amari's value better at that price point...and maybe this is the year he finally blows up and takes the step into Elite WR1.

I don't know, I'm still torn on this one with all the factors involved. I might be able to get a QB back in return as well to soften the blow of losing Dak - probably Dalton.

I think I may pass. I like Evans, but the extra $7 your spending on him may help add a fa rb to your roster. I don't think Cooper is that far behind Evans and the $$$you save will be worth it.
