Team needing some improvements
Team needing some improvements
My team has consistently been at the bottom of our rankings. I have finished 7th, 7th, and 6th in our 3 years in a 10 team. I have generally been plagued by injuries, draft busts, and have made a hand full of bad trades. I'm looking for some advice on getting over that hump to where I can begin competing. Part of that will be becoming more active on here and learning how to better understand dynasty as a whole. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

With the roster you have.. You should be moving AJG for some VERY early picks plus some upside guys like Doctson.

Re: Team needing some improvements
Agree with Caveman. You need to go into a full on rebuild. On top of Green, I'd move Hyde, Martin, Crabtree, and especially White while he might still have some value.

Re: Team needing some improvements
Total rebuilding. I was going to say trade everyone but gurley now. Then mid season or next off season trade him. AJG should net you a top 3 pick and some young players or a first next year. This year's draft is deep. 2nds will net you good players. If you can get the same for gurley, do it.

Re: Team needing some improvements
With just 23 posts in a year and a half I would say you should come here more often also.
1. Finds some articles on the do's and don'ts of dynasty. Bleacher report has a good article on why dynasty is the best type of league to play in. The reasons why will help you understand the differences between dynasty and redraft leagues. I suspect that was the culprit on some bad trades. You jumped in on guys that had a couple of good weeks, but not the draft pedigree to back it up.
2. Make a spreadsheet of the rosters of all your team members and divide them into positions. Study that list and determine what each team might be looking for and what they are weak in. This will help facilitate trades.
3. Dynasty Nerds had a great article about 3 years ago called the Trading Season. It was about the mindset of players about the value of picks/players at different times of the year. Example, draft picks are at a premium price right now. Come mid season when guys are making their push for the playoffs, they are more likely to deal them for a lot less.
4. Always be patient. Whether you are building or contemplating trades. Example, draft James Conner if Bell's owner lacks depth at RB. Should Bell get injured or suspended, you have a great piece to trade to him for picks/players.
5. Quit playing redraft leagues. The midset between redraft and dynasty is vastly different. You value players completely differently when you change your thinking from short term to long term.
6. Evaluate every trade based on what it might look like 3 to 5 years from now depending on position. Three for RB's, 5 for WR's, 7 for QB's.
7. Make a point of reading ten posts on this forum every day.
8. When reading them remember that each league is different. Some have lots of trades, some very few. If you are in one that has few, people have a tendency to overpay to get one done. Don't give into that.
9. When evaluating players, remember what is sizzel and what is the steak. John Ross for example. Who cares how fast he can run. He is still smallish and always injured.
Thats enough for now, but there are more, lots more. Playing dynasty is like trying to handicap horses. Lots of variables. The more experience you have the better.

Re: Team needing some improvements
Oh, and remember you play in a 10 team league. That affects player evaluations. Studs are much more important in a 10 team league. The smaller the league, the more important the value of studs becomes.

Re: Team needing some improvements
You'll see this advise all over this forum. It's so true. Year one in my 10 team league my team was full of 2s and I finished mid pack. You need studs to compete.The.Big.Spank wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2017 4:17 pm Oh, and remember you play in a 10 team league. That affects player evaluations.
