How is my 16 team startup going so far? (Through 9 rds)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

How is my 16 team startup going so far? (Through 9 rds)

Postby joeday » Wed May 24, 2017 6:09 am

16 team league. PPR scoring. Starting lineup - 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K, 1D/ST (No FLEX). I drew the 1.3 spot.

1.03 - Ezekiel Elliot
2.14 - Aaron Rodgers
3.03 - Rob Gronkowski
4.14 - Michael Crabtree
5.03 - Mike Williams

I will update this as picks are made, but what do you guys think so far? Keep in mind it is a 16 team league.

Without context, hard to answer...but I don't like the Crabtree pick. His ceiling is just too low to draft him that early in a startup.

Skip, I am actually a fan of Crabtree. Same age as Dem, on a better offense with a better QB and have scored very similar the last two years. That said, the talent pool dwindles real quick in a 16 team start up lol. Here is the guest url, I think you can access the draft there and let me know what you would have done differently. I enjoy the feedback!

The name that immediately jumps out is Kelvin Benjamin. I'd rather have him than either Crabtree or Williams.

That may be a preference thing but I have NEVER been a fan of KB. I am in 12 leagues and have never had him on a single one of them lol

Call it a preference or not, I've disliked Crabtree since he entered the league and he did nothing at all to impress until he went to the Raiders. I am not suddenly going to be buying into an almost 30 year old WR with an average track record. KB's first two seasons are better than Crabtree and with more good years ahead of him there is a lot of room for improved production. If I didn't already own KB, he's a nice inexpensive buy in all leagues. The picks here in the 5th ahead of him...Perine, Perkins, Moncrief...or last round with Lynch (hahahaha), Hunt...

I also would not have selected Gronk as I think he's far too much of a risk for injury/retirement. I'd have played it "safe" with Kelce most likely if I was taking a TE there even though Reed is my top rated TE.

I like the Zeke and Rodgers picks. The Mike Williams pick is perfectly fine as well had you taken KB instead of Crabtree in the 4th. ;) I don't think the Gronk pick is a BAD pick. If he stays healthy, he's still likely the top producing TE in the game.

I admit that looks high on Crabtree but you did spend your 2nd and 3rd picks on non-WRs so I'm guessing the talent pool has dwindled. I like getting the stability of Rodgers and I'd rather have Zeke than Bell or DJ. Overall I think you've done better than some of your league mates. OBJ going 9 is crazy and that team looks really good

My final defense of the Crabtree pick is that I got him at 62 and fantasypros has him ranked 56 so I don't feel like it was a major reach. God I hope I am right lol

I don't think you want me starting at my age or playing weight (or height...lol). Pretty sure I could only qualify as a kicker and only at short range.

Looks solid so far. I probably wouldn't have taken Crabtree either, but I also agree that he's very underrated.
