Best value for Doug Baldwin? [POLL]

Postby bronx » Tue May 23, 2017 4:43 pm

Evening, everyone.

Recently completed a rookie draft for my primary league (signature updated below), where I managed to snag Davis and some other potentials. So I decided to update my trade bait, and within the hour I received two offers.

Which of these, if any, does Baldwin justice?

GIVE: Doug Baldwin, Kenyan Drake (After talks, he actually seems more interested in Drake)
RECEIVE: Davante Adams, 2018 2nd

GIVE: Doug Baldwin
RECEIVE: Devante Parker, Kevin White, 2018 3rd

In addition to voting, I would greatly appreciate any and everyone's thoughts and opinions on this matter. Thanks!

As for where I am with this ... I am waiting for Parker's breakout in leagues I do own shares, so I am tempted to obtain him here. But Baldwin has been great for me these last two years, and I do not see his value decreasing. I also like the youth and upside of Adams, especially given his performance last year, but I keep wondering if I'm selling short. Am I thinking too highly of Baldwin?

I'm a big fan of both Adams and Baldwin, so first off, I wouldn't do the 2nd deal. I'm not a fan of Kevin White at all and even though Parker is very talented, who knows if he'll ever put it together. The first deal would definitely intrigue me, I know in all of the startups that I've done this offseason, Adams and Baldwin are going in the same area, usually within a few spots, so without checking their ADP, I would say that first deal is pretty close and I would probably ask for another small piece, since it was offered to you. If they give you something else on top, I would probably accept that one, but I do like Adams quite a bit.

I would go Parker and White personally. I would take the chance on their upside. I've heard reports that Parker has actually learned how to be a pro this year. I like the upside if both White and Parker so would take that deal.
In full disclosure I'm not that high on Adams so would not consider that deal personally.

I would take #2 in a heartbeat. I think Baldwin's best fantasy production is behind him and the two guys you would be getting are young and were super high rookie picks just 2 years ago.

I'd hold Baldwin and since you said he likes Drake see if he'll do Drake for the 2018 2nd. Worth a shot but what has changed in Seattle where Baldwin drops off much if at all?

I'd take the first one. They sit next to eachother in ADP but Adams is 4 years younger, has the better QB and I think will get more targets as Nelson ages. He will be more productive of the 2 over the next 4 years (AR maybe retire after that point) and still retain a 1st round trade value min. IMO

I would stay and deal Drake. I do not see Baldwin falling off for another 2 seasons. Who else is there in Seattle for WR?? Plus the guy is good. Adams only given one good year and the other 2 young guys have not shown a thing.

Trade Drake for the 2018 2nd and keep Baldwin for at least one more year maybe two

Trade 1 is great value. I'd be fine with that.

But, I'd probably pass. Your team is competitive now, and I'd much rather trust Baldwin as a starting WR right now than Adams.

I would do trade 1. Adams value will continue to rise and Baldwin has never and will never receive the trade value he deserves. I'd imagine that they will finish within 5 spot of each other this year and you're gaining value and years of youth.

I seriously appreciate everyone's feedback and thoughts on this. The votes are leaning more towards the Adams trade, which is kind of where I was leaning only because we've finally seen Adams do something, and I make my team younger. But the comments here seem to really be split.

I am still torn, but I may hold fast on Baldwin, and deal Drake to the first owner. I feel like getting a 2018 2nd for Drake is great return for someone I do not even believe in. The problem is, as others have said, Baldwin is and always will be undervalued. I doubt I can get Adams for Baldwin straight up from the same owner (especially since Drake is the highlight for him in the trade).

I can't argue Parker and White were high rookie picks. That's fact. But why do you think Baldwin's production is behind him?

As mentioned, I want to believe in Parker, and I hope White can overcome injuries and live up to his draft pedigree, but Baldwin has done it. Is the grass really greener with the two utes?

Adams, Parker and White are flashy names who still haven't put it all together. Don't get fancy, keep Baldwin who doesn't have competition for targets. He's a high end WR2.

Let me ask you this: Would you consider trading Antonio Brown for White and Parker? You absolutely wouldn't because Brown's production far outweighs the possibility either of these guys will be even fantasy relevant let alone solid contributors. Everyone accepts this. Baldwin is the same age as Brown and has been a WR1 two years in a row. While there's a significant drop off between Brown and Baldwin the same principal should apply here. People just can't get over their metrics and late break out biases against Baldwin and give him the respect he deserves.

I wouldn't consider trade 2. White is a bum and while Parker has the potential to hit Miami further delayed his opportunity by resigning Stills. That should also speak to their belief in his ability. Consider trade 1 but ultimately as a Baldwin owner you have to be content with just riding into the sunset with him as a premier producer who just won't net you what he's worth in a trade.
