Can I compete in 2018?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Can I compete in 2018?

Postby captain howdy » Tue May 23, 2017 6:06 am

12 team, 1ppr rbs/wrs, TE Premium PPR, 1/30 kick return points, 1/20 punt return points, passing tds 4, all other tds are 6, best ball, start 1qb, 2-4 rbs, 3-5 wrs, 1-3 tes

Qb: Glennon, Goff, Watson (R)
Rb: CJA, Ware, J. Charles, C. Thompson, Forte, Charcandrick, A. Jones (R), Cohen (R)
Wr: AJG, Arob, Landry, Perriman, Doctson, Juju (R), DGB, J. Taylor, S. Coates
TE: Reed, Ebron, Fiedorowicz, G. Everett (R), J. Smith (R)
Panthers

I am in a quick rebuild, and wondering how I should go about rebuilding..emphasize for 2018 or 2019? AJG would be wasted if I rebuilt for 2 years, I think.

As you can see, my team is not terrible. But is it realistic to be competitive in just one year?

For reference, rather than list all the other teams, I was like 7th in scoring last year.average record. The top teams are two clicks better. I have also ditched Larry Fitz, D. Brees, V. Davis, and C. Palmer..older guys whom I just dropped or got a little value for.

I don't think you have the fire power to be competitive in 2018. There are questions surrounding the majority of your RB's, at least with Best Ball you should have the Denver backfield locked down. QB is also a huge concern with none of your guys really being solidified as the starter, even if they all win the job none of them are really exciting.

I dont see you really increasing your positioning over last year.

Unless you have several things work out in your favor I don't see your team as a competitor in 2018. It looks like you have already completed your draft for this year and not sure what picks you have in 18 but you should probably plan on 2019 before competing. I would look to trade AJG for young stud WR and picks or all picks. I would do the same with Glennon, all your RBS except your 2 rookies and Reed to get younger pieces and picks.

I don't think you will complete this year. I would be selling agj, Charles, reed, and forte for sure.

Compete this year, most likely no. I still think your a good draft or two away. You need rb help and hope that a qb breaks out . I'd look to cash in on AJG now and probably Reed with his concussion history. I think for AJG you can easily get a first plus a quality young player. Reed would be better moved in season to a contender, or if possible I'd look to move him for the 1.6/7 range and get Howard as a replacement. The team in the 1.6/7 range will be a fringe contender and he could put them over the top.

I think it's going to take you a couple of years before you can compete and that's if you pull off some good trades and draft well. I would definitely look to move AJG, CJA, Ware, and Forte...and maybe even Reed. You're going to need to get some good, young RBs and an actual QB.

Thanks for the perceptive views, all.

I know that my team has weakness, specifically at RB and QB...but having stockpiled my guys...well, they are my guys for a reason. I figure that I like them more than most, thats why they are on my roster.

The harsh reality is that my team is simply chock full of hope and promise and nary real production to be found outside of my wrs and reed.

I cannot get good value for AJG and no one looking at Reed...even in TE premium. I figure I can wait to early-mid season.

Absolutely no hope of getting anything for charles and forte. Possibly, I could nab a future 3rd or so mid season if they ar eperforming and someone needs a rb...the question I have is whether Im better off just dumping them in favor of the roster spots spent on speculative adds

noooo Dont dump them if they are the starters next year wait until the trade deadline teams will be looking for a little help around then and you will get at least a 2nd for each depending on how they are doing

I don't understand dumping Brees if the goal was to compete soon unless you were looking to tank this season to add a high pick next year? Most would say he has a couple good seasons left...

Brees, I got good value for. It was just a judgement call at the time, and I had figured Goff would have progressed more in his rookie year..not to say I would count on him in 2016 or 17, but that it would be more realistic to count on him for 2018.

That may still happen. Fisher had a negative effect on that team, imo.

Again, thanks to the advice in this thread...I feel better set up for 2019.

I moved Jordan Reed and mike Glennon for Marcus Mariota, Marvin Jones, and a 2018 2nd and 2018 3rd

I feel ok about the trade for Reed. I do think Mariota is cemented as a top 5 qb for the next ten, and coupled with Goff and Watson I fee confident that position is set throughout my rebuild and on. In a TE premium, there is no doubt Reed has 300 point potential, but the market was soft on him for some reason. My TEs can sustain the loss in the immediate term, I think, but more importantly I have some guys who may ascend. I think CJF is an underrated guy. He has a decent draft pedigree, really, a better Sparq than Hunter Henry, and a (hopefully) improved QB situation.

I also made a minor move for Funchess, who is a player I like and is young with potential. I traded Chris Thompson and Matt Forte to a contending team for Funchess
I have also picked up a few more rookie free agents.

My roster is now as set below.
12 team, 1ppr rbs/wrs, TE Premium PPR, 1/30 kick return points, 1/20 punt return points, passing tds 4, all other tds are 6, best ball, start 1qb, 2-4 rbs, 3-5 wrs, 1-3 tes

Qb: Mariota, Goff, Watson (R)
Rb: CJA, Ware, J. Charles, A. Jones (R), Cohen (R), TJ Logan (R), Elijah Hood (R)
Wr: AJG, Arob, Landry, M. Jones, Perriman, Doctson, Juju (R), Funchess, S. Coates, DGB
TE: Ebron, Fiedorowicz, G. Everett (R), J. Smith (R)

My 2018 assets are my own 1, 2, 3, and an extra 2, and two extra 3's (1,2,2,3,3,3)

Someone had previously asked about my 2017 draft..well, I had moved my first in an ill-fated all in move. That's history. I had 2.3 (Juju), 2.10 (Watson), 3.3 (Everett), and 3.10 (J. Smith). Ajones was a priority free agent acquisition after our 3 round draft

I too do not think you will compete in 2018. Sell AJG after he has a couple big games, sell Charles and forte for whatever you can, CJA for late first. Look to cash in on reed, don't wanna build long term around a concussion riddled TE. Probably get 1.04ish for him

See my update post right above you. reed and Forte are gone.

Now discussing AJG and CJA trade....

Roughly I give AJG and CJA (and charles), for W. Fuller, J. Matthews, and S. Sheperd and a 2018 2nd
