The Dougie Martin conundrum...

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

The Dougie Martin conundrum...

Postby The Red Rooster » Wed May 17, 2017 7:04 am

All,

I have no idea what to expect from Dougie this year...he is being talked up quite a bit right now and I am considering moving him while this is happening. He's been terrible for 3 of his 5 yrs in the league now. This is for team in sig and there are plenty of teams in dire need of a RB. He is making a decent amount for our league and I have very little cap space (trading him for a rookie or 2nd/3rd year player still under their rookie deal would free up a lot of space).

What rookies might you target for him? Maybe Kamara, Perine, Hunt, etc? Or go after 2018 picks? Or a combo of players and picks? Maybe try to get Corey Coleman or someone like that? Or sit tight?

One owner has both Kamara and Hunt (Hunt really fell in our draft). The owner with Coleman literally has no RBs.

Just trying to brainstorm.

Thanks!!

If you can get an 18 1st, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd even move him for one of the RBs you mentioned from this year's draft. I agree with you that he's only had 2 good years, often injured, dealing with suspensions now, and is already 28 years old.

If you are considering moving him for one of those RBs, you have to get something more back.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

He's hard to move, maybe if he has a couple good games after his suspension is over? I'd take a 2018 1st easy, by then we'll have a better idea on those rookies

No one is giving up an 18 1st or Corey Coleman for doug martin. I would realistically take any 2nd I could get if it was me or either of those RBs you mentioned

this

DMart is one of those RB's that never seems to live up to his dynasty value, and is clearly a declining asset. When you factor in all the uncertainty with his 3 game suspension, what's his role when/if he comes back, age, yada, yada, I think I'd rather have Perine, Hunt or Karama straight up right now. Especially if your time window is more than just this season.

So I assume you all would deal Dougie for Treadwell?

Treadwell + rd 2 is more like it to me.

You need to move Martin though. If I read right, your team is loaded at RB. Cash in on Martin.

Thank you. I was trying to figure out if I clicked on the wrong thread when I was seeing the prices suggested.

Martin has had a couple good seasons, and being motivated now, there is a good chance that he has another good season after the first 3 weeks. But the Bucs can still get out of his expensive contract any year with zero penalties, and I don't think it is very likely they decide to pay him $8m in 2018 with extensions for Evans and Winston coming up. So if I am trading for him or holding him, I look at him as a 2017 option (minus 3 games) with a hope that he lands in a nice spot next year for 1 more year of production. That is nowhere near worth a Coleman or a 1st.

I was discussing 1.07+ for Derrick Henry after the draft. The other owner asked me to throw in Martin for Pick 27 as the plus, and I didn't have to think much before pulling the trigger.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...
