Free Agent/6th round draft

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Free Agent/6th round draft

Postby hockeyBjj » Tue May 16, 2017 8:55 am

So my league does its 6th round of the rookie draft as a Free agent (or leftover rookies) draft. I am unsure if the FA draft picks can be traded or not as with the Marshawn Lynch hype and a newer league, it was put in place new this year as the fairest ideas we could come up with.

I will have pick #5. Sorting by FA average draft position on veterans on MFL was the best idea I had as to how to get a base ranking for guys

Is there anyone here I should target (team in sig)? Should I just take a leftover rookie that I can stick on my taxi and not have take up a roster spot? A guy like Torrey Smith could be a chance, as if he has one more good season in him I could flip him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick to a contender mid-season when people start to make their push if their team is doing well.

Also, if these picks are tradable, what is a fair offer for Marshawn Lynch? Not that I plan to go after him as I don't think I'm a contender this year, but with this being new these picks could be gotten at a steal and I could flip him for value if he does well the first 3 weeks. None of the others are jumping out at me but I could be wrong

Why wouldn't you just include FAs into the actual rookie draft? I guess having them in a separate round helps the bottom teams more by giving them the first crack at a player???

Anyways, since you said you wont be contending the most Id be willing to part with would be a 3rd round rookie pick for Lynch. As far as the other guys, I think Swoope has some very good upside.

I know you said you don't think your a contender and wouldn't take Lynch, but you would take Smith in hopes of a future trade. Lynch too me would have better value to a contender for a stretch run. If you can trade these picks would it be worth a 3rd pick next year to get the 6.1 for the potential of getting 2 or 3 contending teams battling over Lynch and turning him into a 1 st or a higher up side younger player ?

I don't think you're getting Lynch since you have the 5th pick. I don't really like anyone else on that list, except for maybe Swoope.

Yes, but I have the #5 pick. Lynch would for sure go #1. On the mfl list Smith is #6 so hypothecally I would have a chance at him without trading something for the fa draft.

I'm trying to find the line of what is the line of worth to trade a piece to flip and the risk no one wants him for a fair price and he sits on my team without pushing me deep to playoffs, as well as who to target #5 if we can't trade or someone makes a better offer to 6.1 owner

Bridgewater is one that intrigues as he can maybe come back and do something. Should I just take a 6th round rookie if no one mentioned here is available at #5?

This. I don't understand that. If you deal your 6th round pick(s) and beyond then you don't get a stab at veteran FAs?

Yeah, the reason is this. The struggling teams have another piece to pick up or trade for picks/young players in their rebuild. It wouldn't end up being a lot of Vets left after 30 man rosters and taxi squad of anyone you've drafted in the past two years, but could give a nice piece to the bottom two or three teams. In this case, the guy who finished dead last has a dreadful, dreadful team who's owner dumped it halfway through the year after trading away his first round pick. Marshawn Lynch value will help him and he really needs it
