Is it worth it to move from 1.03 to 1.02, and how much should it cost?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Is it worth it to move from 1.03 to 1.02, and how much should it cost?

Postby Yung Don » Sun Apr 23, 2017 4:56 pm

Hey guys, for the first team in the signature below I have the 1.03 and would LOVE to grab either Leanord Fournette or Corey Davis. Unfortunately, the owner in front of me owns 1.01 and 1.02 and is almost certain to take both of those players. Is it worth it to move up one spot, or should I stand pat and choose between Mixon, McCaffrey, Williams, and Cook at 1.03? In addition to 1.03 I also own 1.09, 2.04, 2.09, 2.10, 3.07, and 4.10 for trading purposes.
I mentioned a trade to the owner with the 1.01 and 1.02 last week and he joked (hopefully) that it would take the 1.09 and the 1.03 for the 1.02... scam alert?

Wait till the NFL draft and you'll know where they all land. You might end up liking the 1.03 spot.

I pick 1.02 for the league in my sig and I'm currently split on Davis, McCaffrey and Cook for that pick.

The owner at 1.03 wants Davis, but has only offered me 1.03, 2.09 and Cousins for 1.02 (I would have to drop Stafford if I were to keep Cousins). I've declined this offer because I need something worth while to give him the choice of who to take there.

I would give 2.04 and a later pick to move up now, but nothing more until after the draft. 1.09 could be worth it if the guy at 1.02 goes to a great spot, but it is too rich right now.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

Agree with waiting till after the draft. I think the 1.03 and an early 2nd is fair, but wouldn't blame the owner of the 1.02 to ask for whatever he wanted to. Might be better off staying put.

Side note, I think you're better off going RB over WR for that team anyways.

Sounds like the other owner is locked in on Davis so if you want him, you'll need to pay his price. It's a fair ask on his part and it's fair for you to not want to offer more than a 2nd.

I don't think his request is a scam in any way. Maybe he has only 2 players in his top tier. And who knows, maybe he changes his mind if Davis drops to the 2nd rd.

Wait until he drafts... if he does happen to pick Fournette and Davis then you can decide whether trading your 1.03 and 1.09 is worth it to you. Who knows... he may not draft them OR someone might make a move to the 1.02 and pick someone else.

He's in the drivers seat so I can't see the value of the 2 pick going up before or after he picks... I'd personally stick with what you have and not overpay for one spot.

Thing is, the guy with the 1.02 is probably thinking the exact opposite. If he's going to take the risk of moving down a slot before we see all the landing spots, he's justified in asking for the 1.09 right now. If three or four of the top guys go to good landing spots, he might be more amenable to the 2.04 after the NFL draft.

If the OP is trying to get this deal done before the NFL draft, he's probably gonna have to cough up the 1.09. If he's willing to wait, he could be able to move up for less after the draft. The flip side, of course, is that he might actually have to pay more if Lenny and Davis land in great situations and the rest of the top 5-6 land in meh situations.

I'm guessing the 1.02 owner doesn't even want the same player as you do. He just wants to cash in on your extra pick and then take the guy he wants after you are done anyways. I think I would wait until after he drafts the guy you want and then offer him the 1.03 and the other pick.

Thanks for all of the replies guys, each comment read and much appreciated. Yes, I was thinking of offering something along the lines of 1.03, 2.09 & 2.10 for the 1.02..... but I agree that the 1.09 and 1.03 is a little too rich for 1.02 at this point.... especially if I can get a future HOFer in OJ Howard at 1.09. As bad as I want to be able to lock up having one of those two players, after reading the comments my best move is probably to wait until after the draft and scope out the market. This trade may have to wait until he is literally on the clock with the 1.02 at the draft on June 10th. I would just hate if someone else traded for that 1.02 and took my guy....

The problem is, as of now I don't really like any other player in the top half of the 1st besides for those two. My roommate wakes me up every morning by yelling "Cook is a bust!".... and McCaffrey can't be what we think he is and Mike Williams looks like he has flippers for hands :/ Mixon actually looks really good as an on-field prospect, but I'm terrified at taking him at 1.03. Oh dear.

You could always trade 1.03 and move down a few spots for Mixon depending on how he gets drafted or you could trade it for an established player. There will be plenty of teams that want to buy Cook/McCaffrey/Mixon and pay you for that risk and opportunity.

I made a similar inquiry and was told I'd have to add my 2018 1st to the 1.3. Even though we all say that the top tier has 6 players, there is a mini-tier of Fournette/Davis that guys don't want to miss out on.

If he does take both Fournette and Davis, you could always trade the guy you took at 1.03 and some other pieces (including drafted guys) for Davis after the draft as well. You're not SOL if you don't get Davis in the draft if you want him. That also gives you more control and less likely to have buyers remorse
