Fearless or Reckless? Update-1 year later....

Postby flyersfan1981 » Sat Jan 21, 2017 1:12 pm

Team 4

Just made a deal and I suspect it won't be a popular move, but I am curious to how people will look at it. Fearless or Reckless, nothing in the middle!

I traded Lesean McCoy for a 2018 1st (for a team that is going to be very bad) so I am confident it will be Top 4 (I know that is a dangerous game to play, but I will post his roster below). It should be noted that the pick was owned by a different team.

My team finished 2nd this year and it did so without Lacy and CJA. I acquired Jordan Howard with what turned out to be the 1.05, so fair deal there.

Also keep in mind that it is Superflex so high firsts have major value and the 2018 class looks strong as well. It wasn't an easy deal to make, but I felt the value was too good as next off-season not many will pay any first for Shady, let alone a high one. I just did a self-assessment of my roster and felt like this is the last chance for top Shady value so I made a gutsy decision. I still feel I can compete this year with a cheaper vet option mid-season.

I know many will say the pick is an "unknown" and "too far out" and many other reasons it was a bad move. I feel like this move gives me a shot to stay at the top for longer.

Fearless...or reckless...you decide!!

Roster of the pick I acquired, superflex:

Alex Smith, Tyrod, Barkley, Glennon, Foles
Derricks Henry, Abdullah, CMike, Prosise, Ware, Vereen, Morris, Charles Sims
Baldwin, Bryant, Floyd, Lockett, Doctson, Conley, Mitchell, Moncrief, Torrey
Virgil Green, Jermaine Gresham
Picks 1.02, 2.02, 3.02, 4.02

Fearless yes. Definitely not reckless! Some risk for sure, giving up a talent like shady. But I respect it

Count me in the minority. I understand getting value for McCoy--and you definitely sold high and for good value. But I'm in the attack your championship window camp and your team is in a championship window now. Dez, DT TY (27-29) are in their prime. you were primed for a championship run with Howard and McCoy providing booms with high floors at RB. Plus plenty of talent the next two years at RB to find a good RB in the draft.

im with 1957. your team is built to win. i understand trying to capitalize on value with any player, but when it comes to rb's....the value is in their production. when your team is competitive, i see no reason to move a rb, thats reserved for when your in the midst of a rebuild imo.

foster and lynch retired on a few of my teams, but i also won a few titles with them.

I didn't vote because I think it's right down the middle of fearless and reckless. Come next spring you will love that you did this, unless it costs you a championship.

Thanks for the posts guys...hopefully they keep coming! It is a great debate here for sure.

It feels weird because if you know me I am always telling people the opposite of what I did and go for the title when it is there.

My thinking comes from playing a few years that now is a bad time to buy RBs so selling them now is usually good return. I think my team is good enough to make the playoffs which most of us agree is a crap shoot anyway. Plus I feel I can always flip assets mid season...I don't need to be a contender in January.

I own 3 2018 1sts now and they are all from teams that I don't expect to make the playoffs. Definitely gonna come back to this one in a year to see if my gamble paid off or not.

Pokerface...respect for abstaining haha...you put it very well. I just am of the belief that people panic buy RBs too early in the offseason and I felt I saw an opportunity to get an asset guaranteed to appreciate.

It is right down the middle because yours is a win now team. That being said, I love the move. To me, pulling off moves like these, successfully, is crucial if you want to avoid your older stars losing first round value.

RB: D. Harris, D. Montgomery, Kendre M.
WR: Chase, AJ Brown, Aiyuk, Bateman

TE: Andrews, Fant, Likely

Good idea to sell high on McCoy. He was finally healthy this year after years of being dinged. I wouldn't bet on a repeat great season.

It's an easy trade to make if your team isn't competing. However, it does make the decision much harder by moving McCoy when you are competing. You could potentially have crippled yourself for another run. But that is the risk you take. I think I would have done the same, and try not to look back.

I would of tried to get a player in return back with the 1st. His team isn't good but isn't that bad also. Idk it's both fearless and reckless imo

Ok...so I wanted to circle back to this. My team was hit by some injuries and it didn't turn out the way I was hoping. But I also made some moves for the future once I saw it going sideways (acquired OBJ for Julio/Big Ben). That said, I am not sure Shady would have been enough to get me in the playoffs.

The pick ended up being 1.02, which carries huge value in Superflex. Anyone think Shady can still command a Top-5 pick?

I am very glad I made this move...

Thoughts a year later?

Am ok with the idea. If that team is indeed a bottom4 team I would think the picks becomes worth a lot come week 7-9 in season. And thus you can use it to buy a key player if you are making a run. However, if he buys McCoy now he could be ready to make other moves improving the team short term.
Team 1, 0.5 PPR SuperFlex: QB, FlexQB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, Flex
QB: Watson, Herbert (Mariota)
RB: Barkley, Jacobs, Dobbins (Akers, K Herbert)
WR: DJ Moore, Woods, Golladay (T Patrick, Shenault, Rondale M, Cephus)
TE: Goedert (Njoku, Bryant, Trautman)
Pick 1.01
