Possible trade offer...

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Possible trade offer...

Postby BeRanDone » Sun Jun 27, 2010 1:15 pm

If you take a look at my League 1 roster below, you can see that I need help at both RB & WR. I was thinking about taking a hit at QB and packaging up Brees in an effort to help me in those two areas. I don't see my team as great contender this year so that's also a part of my thinking...

So here's the potential trade partner's notable players:

QB: Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez
RB: Gore, SJax, Wells, Forsett
WR: AJ, Roddy, Edwards, Mike Williams, Josh Morgan, Taylor Price
TE: Davis, Shawn Nelson

I was thinking about sending this offer his way: Brees/Lynch/Washington/2011 2nd FOR Ryan/Wells/Williams. What do you think?

*UPDATE* - He didn't really like the first one, citing Lynch's risk and seeing no value in Washington.

New trade offer on the table:

Brees/McCoy/Murphy/2011 2nd FOR Ryan/Wells/Forsett/Mike Williams

What side would I come out on if this went through? Remember this is for League 1 in my sig.

I really like that deal for you but it may be a little too steep for the other owner. It's definately a fair starting offer though.

why is this the only owner you can engage in talks with? I'm personally not a big Beanie fan. I just remember the guy being kinda soft and easily banged up in college. I know you need a QB back in any deal, (given what you have behind Brees) but maybe look for another QB with a lesser percieved (sp?) value ie. Kolb, stafford or cutler. Most Ryan owners have been enjoying the "he's the next peyton" hype that has been heaped on Ryan since he was a rookie. If you target a guy like cutler you might be able to get more with him. I personally would stand pat and try to steal someone via the WW or make a smaller deal for a prospect you've got a gut feeling about. Marshall & Dez are a good enough 1,2 combo for the future. I actually see your biggest weakness as TE. like I said though I'd stand pat largely because I don't think you've got the depth to trade starters.

I looked at all three guys you named before I came up with the offer for Ryan and here's the deal:
  • The Kolb owner has Aaron Rodgers.
The Stafford owner has Tom Brady.
The Cutler owner dealt Brees to me back in February and has Matt Schaub.

If the previous Brees owner just traded him to you that would explain your lack of depth. Also he couldve shopped Brees around before making a deal with you, Meaning that there weren't better offers out there previously. I'd definately stand pat for now. Revisit it either later in the season or next offseason. Maybe then you could pull an easier trade for a QB and a top draft pick and add a Mark Ingram or DeMarco Murray.

I had the lack of depth at QB before I acquired Brees, just substitute Schaub for Brees. I was looking to move Schaub as I didn't see him making it through many more injury-free seasons in the future. The deal back in Feb was:

I gave: Schaub, Miles Austin, 2.07 (Gerhart), 2.09 (McCluster)
I got: Brees, LeSean McCoy, 1.02 (Dez), 2.04 (Dwyer), 2011 2nd

I know he wasn't shopping Brees because he told me in negotiations, he was just ok with dropping to Schaub and jumping to Austin with his WR core.

I ended up proposing the deal in my OP, fingers crossed.

IMO, I am not convinced that you are improving your team by making that deal. I wouldn't do it.

I do not like Forsett enough to consider him as a major piece in this deal, and Mike Williams is a rookie. All in all, I do not think you are getting enough of an upgrade at either RB or WR to downgrade from Brees to Ryan. I'd look elsewhere.
Year 2 | 12 team | Standard | .5 PPR | rtrn yrds | 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/TE, 1 RB/WR/TE, 1 TE, 1 K, 2 each IDP (big play)

Q: Stafford, Ben, Locker, Kaep
R: Run DMC, Mathews, JStew, M. Bush, D. Wilson, Jennings, D. Scott, Tanner
W: Mega, Fitz, Nicks, Julio, Rice, Meachem, D. Baldwin, Sanu, M. Jones, G. ChildsBriscoe
T: Gates, Allen, Moeaki
K: Janikowski
DL: JPP, C. Johnson
LB: Willis, Hali, Bishop
DB: J. McCourty, Chancellor

I think you are giving a little too much in the new offer.

Where does it push over the threshold in your opinion?

The upgrade from McCoy to Wells doesn't offset the drop from Brees to Ryan IMO.

Ok, I agree with that. But what about the rest of the deal - Murphy/2011 2nd and Forsett/Williams?

I don't care for that new deal for your team. Considering I am not that high on McCoy either, that means it is probably further off in other people's opinions.
Start: 2 QB, 3 RB, 5 WR, 2 TE (All TDs=6, 1 per 10 rush/rec, 1 per 25 pass, NO PPR) 8 teams
QB: Rodgers, Vick, Cutler, Schaub, Luck
RB: Rice, CJ, McFadden, Richardson, Stewart, Ingram, Spiller, Vereen
WR: Green, Marshall, Roddy, Jennings, Roddy, Bowe, Maclin, Britt, A Brown, Williams (TB), Collie, Smith (STL)
TE: Graham, Finley, F Davis, Cook
Taxi Squad: Tebow, Crabtree, Jeffrey, Hill, Gordon

I'm not following you on the part I bolded above.

I ended up revoking the deal though.

I'm not high on Forsett but I like both Murphy and Williams...the deal is close, but I think you can get more for Brees.
