High Risk, High Reward - Buy Low RBs

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

High Risk, High Reward - Buy Low RBs

Postby Top Gun » Mon Aug 15, 2016 5:57 pm

As someone that is undergoing a rebuild, one of the only things left in my way from being a contender is a better RB unit. Who are some guys that don't really cost all that much to acquire, but if the stars were to align for them it could pay off big time? (Obviously looking for guys more on the young side)

Off the top of my head Smallwood, D.Washington, T. West, Zenner, Marshall, Ajayi, Karlos Williams, Sims, Booker, CAP, Coleman, McKinnon all have some nice upside and should cost less than a 1st

Agree on Ajayi. Patriots backfield is always a crapshoot so White could prove valuable if Lewis is still recovering. Spencer Ware holds value as a TD vulture even if Charles stays healthy and goes up if Charles gets hurt again.

Mike Davis is practically free. I know SF is a hot mess but Chip's sytem relies on running the ball, even when the team is down. The system can support multiple RBs even if Hyde does not get hurt.

I think a lot of the way to approach this involves knowing the tendencies of your league mates. One of the owners in a league I'm in loves rookie picks and combine warriors so I managed to acquire Rawls for far under his market value. Another one of my league mates is highly focused on YPC from his backs so I picked up Hill for an expendable WR for me. We all have tendencies and if you're observant and keep open lines of communication with your league mates you'll pick up on them. The key of acquiring players for cheap is understanding individual owners evaluation differences and offering trades that your partner will see as a win for them.

Gordon is someone to consider. Remember, he was a top 3-4 rookie pick last year and he has already been pronounced dead and worthless. If he puts something together on the ground and takes 1/3-1/2 of the receptions Woodhead had last year he is suddenly banging on the door of a top 10 back.

But then again maybe I'm just hoping because I already traded for him...

I like both Yeldon / Coleman, each an injury / few bad games away from a starting role

Rawls- value is lower right now, but if he plays like last season he could be a steal.

D Murray /R Matthews / A Foster- not very young but value is low now

Yeah, Ware is a good one too. The KC system seems to be able to turn any of their runners into an RB1 so if JC ever goes down he gets a massive value boost and he might be pretty cheap depending on the owner.

As it's PPR, how about Bilal Powell?

As a long shot, Tyler Ervin or Branden Oliver, but they'll never hit big time.

As a stash, Peyton Barber.
