Offseason Moves

Postby smbkrypt24 » Sun Jul 10, 2016 5:08 am

I am curious to see wether people think I moved in the right direction this offseason (I didn't see my team as a contender).

Ehh.. Your WR's got younger for sure which is nice. I'm not high on Watkins as other are.. You got rid of Big Ben/Zeke/Ingram/Dez to basically have (2) more 1sts next year and have Cooper/Watkins which seems heavily not in your favor.

Your RB depth is gone now and some have "Watkins" as injury prone. I would have much rather had Zeke/Dez/Treadwill combo, then traded Ben/Ingram for a different WR..

Lets hope one of those 1sts pan out for you next year.

Yeah since I am not a contender I wanted to build around young WRs. I got rid of Big Ben/Ingram/Dez because they are in there prime now (Ben preforming really well) and my team is not contending. Zeke I sold because of the value people are placing on him right now without playing a down.

I get what you are saying the team starting comparisons:
Could have had:
QB: Big Ben
RB: Ingram, Zeke, (D. Murray perhaps)
WR: Dez, Treadwell
TE: Eiffert

vs.

QB: Fitzpatrick
RB: D. Murray
WR: Cooper, Watkins, Treadwell
TE: Eiffert

But I don't see that lineup as a contender.

Your team definitely got worse in terms of your '16 competitiveness. I understand that you were trying to get younger and look to the future, so I like the types of moves you made. That said, I think you could have gotten more for what you gave up. It would be helpful for me if you posted the specific trades you made to get to this point.

Everybody has got a good point, but I like the moves you made. I believe you could have gotten a little more for Zeke. If you are going to make any more trades, don't make them for running backs, that is what 2017 is "full of".

I personally think you raped really bad in trade #5. It wasn't a PG-13 rape either. It was an NC-17 rape that is going to physically hurt for days, and emotionally hurt for years!

You downgraded at every position except wr. RG3 is a half polished turd in a run first offense. Where Big Ben is a fantasy dream.

The thing that makes trade 5 bad is including 1.1. If you switched that out for one of your other firsts, not a bad deal IMO. You'd have Zeke, Watkins and Cooper. Great start to a rebuild. You may get some great players next year. I guess it just delays getting a good RB a year assuming you go that direction.

My thinking on trade 5 was this:

Watkins=Dez
Cooper=1.01, Ingram
Fitzpatrick<<<<Big Ben, 2017 2nd

I was willing to slightly lose, IMO, in order to build around young stud WRs.

Trade 1 looks like a win in a 1 QB league
Trade 2 is even and falls in line with your strategy of playing for the future.
Trade 3 looks like an overpay now, but if that first is early in '17 you won't miss what you gave up
Trade 4 is probably even and you got the best piece
Trade 5 is the big one. Breaking it down, I'd rather have Cooper and Watkins over Dez, Elliot and Ingram. Big Ben and the 2nd make this trade seem even. I like it for you, but I think if you traded Zeke alone you could have gotten more value, as I feel all of the parts in this trade didn't allow you to maximize his hyped up value. I think you'll be happy with the young studs you got in the end
Trade 6 Is good. You paid an additional 3rd to move into the 2nd round and hopefully the 2nd is mid to early.

Now that I see the trades I think you did very well. My only criticism is not extracting more value out of the 1.01, but you got a fair deal and what I suspect will be the greater long term value.

Thank you for putting the time in to breakdown each trade. I appreciate that.

Trade 1- If f I would have known that I was going to trade Big Ben later in the offseason I would have hung on to him. I still like the trade though.
Trade 2- I looked at his stats before beginning the trade talks and was surprised to find Woodhead finished 4th best RB in our scoring. He is also 31 so he wouldn't help in my rebuild.
Trade 3- I shopped the picks for next years picks and finally got a taker. I agree that it was a lot to pay and also agree that if it is a top 6 pick I will be happy with this in the long run
Trade 4- I felt it was a lot to give for a 2017 1st but once again if it is top 6, I will be happy with this trade.
Trade 5- The other owner wanted 1.01 and was the reason we made the trade so I couldn't take that piece out (I don't believe). The one offer I remember was Watkins, 1.07, 2.07, and Ryan Fitzpatrick for 1.01, Big Ben, S. Roberts, 2.01. My thinking was to counter with Cooper and Watkins because I really wanted Cooper. Looking back I should have replaced Cooper for Watkins and taken out some things on his side, then trade Ingram and Dez separately.
Trade 6- I gave Hightower to the new Ingram owner as a handcuff. I didn't need him and wanted to get a 2017 2nd second.

I like the moves for your team.

I think you may have slightly overpayed in trade 5 but nothing awful. Maybe a 2017 2nd too much at most. People who think you got trade raped are vastly over valuing Zeke. It's almost impossible to get 2 top 10 overall players who are both WRs under 23 in the same trade and you pulled it off. I think it was the right move for your team.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I didn't think that was a trade rape like a couple posters thought in here. I do wonder if I could have gotten more/given up less since it was snap accepted. But like you said I don't think it was trade rape unless he turns into Emmit Smith.
