Jordan Matthews for two late firsts?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Jordan Matthews for two late firsts?

Postby juke05 » Tue May 24, 2016 4:58 pm

Was offered 1.11 and a 2017 first (likely late again) for JMatt...would you make this trade or do you think I could get more?

Not knowing your roster, I would say no. This year's 1.11 is throughly uninspiring, and an unknown first rounder next year doesn't equal a young, established, WR2 who is his team's WR1

I'm somewhat low on Matthews, but I'd pass here and keep Matthews.. In a vacuum "2 1sts" is a reasonable return for Matthews, but not all 1sts are created equally. I think the player you'll get at 1.11 is more like an early-mid 2nd round prospect in most other draft classes. It's just a weak class. '17 1sts are coveted, but there's no guarantee that pick won't end up being a 1.10-1.12 type of pick either.

No and it's not close. Late firsts really aren't that valuable. JMatt went 25th overall in my recent startup. The 11th rookie went 98th. There's a HUGE value gap there. Yes there's potential upside if the 2017 first ends up earlier than projected, and yes people are higher on next year's class, but I just don't think that comes close to filling the gap between a player going in the 20-30 range and a player going in the 90-100 range especially when you discount the 2017 pick for time.

This. I hate how all 1sts just get thrown around like they are equal value in a trade sometimes when talking about how a certain player is worth "x" amt of 1sts. When people say an elite asset like OBJ is worth 4 1sts, do you really think anybody would actually trade him for picks 1.9, 1.10, 1.11, and 1.12? Basically 4 players that will be picked later than 80th in a startup? Heck no. That would be terrible value, even tho it qualifies according to the 4 1sts rule. And that's in any draft, not just a weaker one like this year's. 2 1sts is really good value for Matthews IF one of them is at least 1.5, or slightly higher. Otherwise, pass. The 2016 1.11 and another late one next year isn't close. Especially when the 2017 pick is discounted for having to wait on it for a whole year, as the person above me stated. Your trade partner will get full use of Jordan Matthews immediately. You'll be very lucky to even get bye week fill in / flex worthy production from the 1.11. The 2017 is unknown. Don't make it that easy for him.
