1.03 for a 2017 1st

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

1.03 for a 2017 1st

Postby norsberry » Sun Apr 10, 2016 8:34 pm

Would you give up the 1.03 pick in this years draft for a 2017 1st? The 1st should be the 1.01 pick, and at worst the 1.02. I would love the shot at Fournette but I'd hate myself if the pick didn't end up being so low.

Talk me into it or out? I don't know which direction to go here.

Never make those assumptions. I'd need to see the roster he has before giving a yes or no answer. In a vacuum, next years 1.01 is better than this years, and onwards. Fournette, JuJu, Chubb (pre-injury) I would take over Elliott, so if you really think it's a given. Go for it, BUT, don't be upset if it turns into the 1.07. I've seen it happen.

NEVER ASSUME with your own picks on the line, the only person that you are hurting is yourself. The 2016 1.03 is set in concrete, it can't change, who knows with what happens next year's picks.

If I am moving the 1.03 I would want at least (2) 2017 1sts, the 1.03 if a premium pick, treat it like one.

I worry about making assumptions a full year out. 1.01 or 1.02 may not be so assured, though i can understand why people make those assumptions. I thought a team would be bottom two going into 2015 and he missed playoffs by a few Points For scored...but his 1.03 could have easily been a 1.07 or later depending on his playoff run.

I wouldn't move the 1.03 for it. Too much assumption. I would need to work on a deal to get other value given the 1.03 is a real-time valuable asset and the future pick is unknown to be equal or greater (ignoring class and focusing on draft standing).

here's his roster:
http://www65.myfantasyleague.com/2016/o ... =0018&O=07

hes got a few 1sts and quite a few 2nds this year, but I doubt it's enough to make him not be a bottom 2 team next year. This give y'all a better perspective?

Even with '17 being perceived as a much stronger class, this is a situation where I'll take a "bird in the hand" over "one in the bush". Once we get into the 1.06-1.07 range then I'll gamble on moving it for a future 1st if I think the future class is stronger and I think the original owner of the future pick has a weak team. I won't give a top 3 pick for a random future 1st though.

Even if the players are inferior in terms of talent, very rarely does a top 3 rookie not increase in value over their rookie season (injuries aside). I'd have confidence that the player I'm taking at 3 this year will increase in value and net me more in return next year than trading away the pick will net me right now.

wow that roster looks like waivers. As everyone has said its not a good to assume what pick you will get in future. You have to consider possibility that owner may be making lots of moves to rebuild the roster. If this is the last trade or move he/she gonna do, with this roster I'll take it.

I agree that you should ask for more, but overall I think it's a good move. The 1.3 this year is a huge tier drop from 1.2, and I just don't think it's a very safe pick for the high return you want. I think next year will offer about 8 really strong players at the top, all better than the current 1.3.

I wouldn't trade away Treadwell or Doctson for somebody you hope to be similar next year not knowing where it'll be. That roster is horrid, but just looking at the free agents available there are many guys that he could use to fill in holes and maybe not score great but still score decent. Never know what can happen through the year. I'd want more than 1 random pick for the 1.03. Your best hope is to just get back where you are right now.

Or at least wait for the draft. Somebody will want the guy drafted into a great spot and offer more than and equal to or less than offer.

While the roster is weak, you never know what can happen. For one, the free agency pool is pretty deep with enough guys to fill a decent starting lineup. He may find the next Dion Lewis, and draft the next Kamar Aiken and Stephon Diggs, later picks that will immediately start

I took over a team last year that was a train wreck. Someone traded me Watkins for my 2016 1st and Russell Wilson, probably thinking the same thing you were. The pick ended up 1.11, and should have been 1.12 but that was my own stupid lineup choice in the championship

My team is now lined with studs due to trading and finding guys on waivers. Never assume a pick is early

I wouldn't do this. You'd need more coming back than just the 2017 1st. As others have said, you can't predict where the pick will land. And the 1.03 IS (even in this class) as premium pick. It will look better after the draft, I promise.
