Startup advice & RMT

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Startup advice & RMT

Postby Prison_Mike » Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:54 pm

In the middle of a startup - currently in Rd 12
(12team | .5ppr | 1QB) - snake/slow draft
Start: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2 FLEX

How’s it looking so far and where would you go from here?

QB: Prescott
RB: Gordon, McKinnon, Duke Johnson, Yeldon
WR: OBJ, Thielen, DJ Moore, Boyd, Marvin Jones, Enunwa
TE: Njoku

NOTE: I’ve got the 1.02 in the rookie draft so I’ll be bolstering my RB corps by taking the best RB available there

Any advice/thoughts?

Btw, let me know if you want to know how our picks played out. I know some people like to use that info for their own upcoming drafts

I know. Was planning on taking best RB available at 2 because that’s a weak spot atm

hate your QB1...you waited too long
i have to say, i am not a fan of your draft
i assume you went OBJ, Gordon, Thielen, DJ Moore...but after that i am not in love..
it seems you went in with a plan...late QB and fade RBs, and you stuck with it no matter what..
but honestly, it is difficult to critique without seeing the draft

and i think briank is trying to tell you not be so stuck on RB with 1.02...take BPA...
team 1 -start QB RB 2WR TE 2RB/WR 1WR/TE
qbs=5pt tds wr/te=1 ppr rbs=.5ppr all get .25ppc
Watson, Brady, Mills
Ekeler, Hunt, Carson/Penny, DForeman, Mitchell, CPat, Kyren, Ford, KHarris
Cooper, sutton, Chase, Shepard, Atwell, Schwartz, Wan'Dale, Austin III
Gesicki, Engram, Hooper, Woods
team 2 -start QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex K D
Cousins, Stafford
DH JT, Ekeler, Kylin Hill, Herbert, KHarris, Chandler
Hopkins, Diggs, Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Callaway, DPJ, Robby Anderson, Schwartz, Pierce, Wan'Dale, Doubs
Kelce, Andrews, Jacob Harris

Not a good way to draft IMO. Take the best player available. Don't worry about lineups. Drafting for need gets you nowhere. You could trade that 1.02 come draft time for a proved RB come draft time, or package it to get that guy. Whoever you like, James Conner, Dalvin Cook etc. Don't draft for need, draft the player who is most likely to be productive in the NFL> that will get you what you need at your weak spots. Imagine if you drafted Treadwell (1st round NFL pick) over Zeke because you "were weak" at WR.

I've learned, in a startup, it's important to be aware of staring requirements, but not to draft for them. Take the BPA, and sort it out later. If it's close in talent between a few guys, and you are really hurting at a certain position, draft for need, but don't pass on talent for positional requirements, in startups, OR rookie drafts.

Yep, I know that’s what he was saying. I’m just concerned about not having a 3rd serviceable RB.
Especially with my 2 starters’ injury history

No love for Dak? I mean he’s not my favorite real life QB either. He’s lacking in a lot of areas. But from a fantasy standpoint: hasn’t he had a top 10 finish every year of his career? And now he actually has a quality WR to throw to!

And yeah kinda. My plan was to go late QB. The plan going in wasn’t necessarily to fade RB though. I had the 11th pick and RBs flew off the board faster than I’ve seen in any draft. So rather than reaching down to take the most serviceable RB, I tried to just grab the best skill player on the board.
I’m not the only one who got caught mistakenly fading RB though. The guy who took Gurley has RoJo as his RB2 and is desperately trying to make a trade

Don't pass on a better player to fill a need. Always draft the best/most valuable player available, you can always trade him or someone else for your needs afterwards, you're just surrendering value otherwise.

Draft for value, trade for need.
