Keep 1

Postby pmart33 » Thu Jul 19, 2018 7:47 am

12 team half point PPR. Starters: 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE)

NOT for the team in my signature. I have the following Keeper options and can keep 1 player at the cost of the corresponding pick. I have pick number 3 in the draft and plan on taking one of the top RBs with that selection.

Fournette 2nd (pick 22 overall)
Gronk 3rd (pick 27 overall)
Rodgers 3rd (pick 27 overall)
Tyreek Hill 4th (pick 46 overall)
M. Jones 7th (pick 75 overall)

Please list your top 2 or 3 choices if you don't mind. Thanks.

I'd keep Fournette. I have him going early 2nd round, so using a later pick is a tremendous gain. At 22 you would get something like a McCaffrey (my RB13) or Baldwin (WR10). Fournette's (RB8) capacity to be a game changer is much higher. And he has a very good schedule, specially by the end of the fantasy season.

After him I would choose Jones Jr. There is considerable value having him at 75. His last season was incredible and his stock is a little high in my opinion, but Hill has a new QB and Gronk has the injury + aging QB risks. At 27 I consider ARod a reach. Bottom line:

Fournette - Jones - Hill - Gronk - Arod

Just look at redraft ranks and which player is the best value at each pick. Fournette is most likely the best value as a late 2nd round pick followed by Hill at that spot in the 4th.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

The thing to look for first is value. No option here gives you great value.

The next thing to look at is starting line-ups. They are small here, making studs much more valuable than underappreciated role players. That eliminates Jones (nowhere near a stud) and Hill (unlikely to match his big numbers from last year).

Rodgers and Gronk are studs. The elite positional scarcity points toward Gronk of the two, but the uncertainty about how many games he would play gives reason for pause. Rodgers should be one of, perhaps, two bona fide difference-makers at QB. Each is a stud, so it's a pick-'em between those two: positional scarcity vs. higher likelihood of fulfilling his elite status. Pick one of those (I'd narrowly select Rodgers.)

Now you're left with the winner of the Gronk vs. Rodgers debate against Fournette. He's not quite a stud, but the 1/2 PPR format is better for him in comparison with the other elite RBs. From the trio of him, Gronk, and Rodgers, he likely presents the best value even though it's not a massive one.

Given all those options, I'd keep Fournette. Odds are that you'll have a much better shot of re-drafting Rodgers or Gronk with your third-round pick than you would LF with your second-round pick. Worst case, Kelce or Ertz should still be on the board in the 3rd if you want to go that direction and if Rodgers is gone, too. In addition, having LF and your stud RB from your first-round pick is a great foundation.
