Gauging value on a few players

Postby honcho55 » Fri Mar 02, 2018 6:41 pm

Hi folks, new to this forum, looks pretty solid and active!

This is not a full dynasty team in question, but this seems the best place to ask because dynasty startup values are pretty close to what I'm looking for here. This league is 12 team, fairly standard 1ppr. QB, 2 each RB WR, TE, Flex, K, TD. Again, not a dynasty, but! Each team keeps two players from last year, at the round they were drafted at. So in this scenario, I drafted Dalvin Cook in the 4th round last year, so I can spend my 4th this year to keep him. I don't think we require teams to keep guys but theres almost always value in it so I don't think anyone would pass. Undrafted guys if kept cost a 7th. If two guys with the same cost are kept, you gotta trade for 2 picks in that round, or spend your next highest pick (aka if you wanna keep two undrafted guys and you havent made any trades, it will cost your 6th and 7th)

Anyways, asking this forum the consensus on my best value. I have drawn the 4th pick, so my first (1.04) is worth 4 ovr, 2nd round (2.09) is worth 21 overall, etc. None of the pick trades I made affect where my guys would be at.

Heres my viable options:

J. Mixon - 3rd (3.04)
D. Cook - 4th (4.09)
D. Henry - 6th (6.09)
C. Keenum - 7th (7.04)
N. Algholor - 7th (7.04, again, 6.09 if I kept both 7th rounders)
C. Davis - 11th (11.04)
C. Wentz - 14th (14.09)

I have a few thoughts on where Im gonna go, but want to see what folks think before I spill

Thanks in advance, Ill probably make another post about my real dynasty league after this

Cook for sure. I think my second choice is Henry in the 6th.
Mixon is not a great value and I really question that entire offense.
Wentz is a great value in the 14th, but not worth it in 1QB format. He may not even start week 1.

I like Cook and Henry as well. Even rounds are back end picks in snake, so you're getting starting caliber RBs at good value. I like Davis in the 11th, but I doubt you get those RBs at a better price.

Cook and Henry is what I'm leaning. That way I can spend 1, 2, 3 on WRs or top TE/QBs and have a nice core. I was expecting a few people to look at Davis in the 11th and wentz in the 14th as just too much value to pass up, compared to what their adp might be.

Cook/Henry was my initial choice based on value.

If it were my team I'd look to welcome back Davis in the draft if possible, and Wentz also (though I doubt you'd be able to get him so cheaply this season, even coming off the injury).

I've run a keeper league very similar to this since 2006. The main difference is it's 3 keepers, and undrafted players are 10th round values. For me, I would keep Cook and Henry, and it isn't really even close.

Keep Cook and Henry. Don’t waste an early round pick on a QB. Let someone else invest that kind of draft capital in Brady, Rodgers, Wilson, etc. You can find two perfectly capable QBs late in the draft. I wouldn’t be dead set on taking all WRs or TEs with your first three picks. If there’s an RB on the board who’s just too good of a value to pass on, don’t hesitate to take him. At the very least, you’ll need another startable RB for bye weeks. If you can get Kelce or Gronk at 2.09 or Ertz at 3.04, I would do that. Otherwise, I’d probably wait until the double-digit rounds to draft your TEs too.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties
