New League Veto Issue

Postby dynastynut » Tue Nov 04, 2014 11:34 pm

Up until this point every trade accepted has just been push through by the commissioner. No vote from
The league. Well today I was offered Megatron for CPatterson and a 1st. The commissioner said he collected a vote from a league about the trade and it was vetoed. I can only find two people that said the denied it. I'm tied in second with the commissioner. So I am concerned that he turned it down so I wouldn't pull a head of him. What do you do in situations like this?
Team 1
10 Team Non-PPR dynasty
QB:Matt Ryan, Big Ben, Romo
RB: CJ Anderson, Lamar Miller, Frank Gore, Jonathan Stewart, Latavius Murray, Ameer Abdullah, David Johnson, Jay Ajayi
WR: Dez Bryant, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen, Jordan Matthews, Allen Robinson, Nelson Agholor, John Brown
TE: Rob Gronkowski, Eifert
Team 2
12-team 6pt Passing TDs, non-ppr
QB: Matt Stafford, Eli Manning, Sam Bradford
RB: Melvin Gordon, Tre Mason, Lamar Miller, Robert Turbin, and Shane Vereen
WR: Brandin Cooks, Allen Robinson, Amari Cooper, Jeremy Maclin, Kevin White, DeVante Parker, Michael Floyd, Keenan Allen, Jaelen Strong, and Brian Quick
TE: Travis Kelce, Tyler Eifert

Sounds shady.

I've never heard of a league where the commissioner collects the veto votes privately and then declares whether it is vetoed or not. Usually the trade is up for a few days, which gives everybody a chance to click a veto button, taking the count out of the hands of the commissioner and providing anonymity to the vetoers.

Either that or give all the veto power to the commissioner, but only for obvious cases of collusion.

Your example seems a bit weird for me, even though I can understand why people would be unhappy with the trade.

I'd ask everyone privately and seperatly to see if they indeed voted. The trade is not something I would vote no to.

All veto votes should be public to the league (unless the site has a voting feature built in that can't be commish manipulated)... If the commish, or the other owners are unwilling to say it outloud, IMHO they shouldn't be allowed to vote against...

Our league has had one trade vetoed in our two years, and it was an open vote in our forum... Everything NEEDS to be transparent...

That sounds super questionable. There's no good way to handle this - if you dig and it turns out the commish was cheating, you probably need to leave the league. Maybe you can take the other players with you and restart elsewhere with the same teams. If you don't dig then you'll always wonder if he was cheating you, and it'll probably ruin the league anyway.

Honestly, the only good result is if you dig and discover it was vetoed legit.

Extremely dirty move. Seems fitting since yesterday was election day.

Voting should be public via league forum or league poll, not this private "trust me" BS. And that trade is not veto worthy anyway, unless you're a cowardly commish in over his head or a league member who relies on the rest of the league to be mediocre to have a shot in hell of winning anything.

This is not right. Bring it up to the whole league, publicly. Sounds like a shady commish to me.

Very questionable, im a commisioner in a startup league and I have veto power, but would never use it unless collusion was obvious. Sounds like you may have a corrupt commissioner.

Yes, this.

The other problem with the commissioner seeking out votes is... does he do that with every trade? If it's a general policy that he seek out objections to trades, it's one thing. If not, he's essentially campaigning for a veto against this trade in particular.
