Division Rival trading

Postby eNdblu » Sun Mar 11, 2012 4:00 pm

So I've got a trade offer currently out to a division rival.

The trade offer is
Vick (7m/4yrs) & 1.06
Stafford (1.2m/2yrs)

At the end of a player's contract we can tag them at which point others in the league can make offers but would forfeit draft picks depending on the tag.

Being division rivals, is it wise to make trade offers with each other?

I have no idea the interest level is with this other team, other than he's logged in once since I made the offer, but haven't had any communication with him at all.

Pay no attention to trading with teams within a division. If making a trade is good for your team, do it.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

Agreed. Also, I don't think that trade is gonna get accepted.

Probably not, but no harm in asking :)

Don't know if we're going to get the other view on this, so I'll just point to a thread where someone considered this- http://www.dynastyleaguefootball.com/dl ... 21#p230700

This owner was trying to make a trade, but found that one of the potential trade partners was in their division, so "I don't want to help him get better at QB".

In a keeper league last year, I traded Tony Romo to an owner (in my division) that I knew I had the chance of meeting in the playoffs, since we both were playoff-bound.

He happened to have both Schaub and Cassel as his only two rostered QBs (both injured). With the waiver-wire extremely thin and without a QB, he felt compelled to accept my trade offer. I ended up receiving his 2012 1st round draft choice. Turns out, he gets the bye and we never face each other, since I lost in the first round. By making him stronger, he could have easily faced me and knocked me out of the playoff race.

He ends up advancing to the SB and loses as Romo and McCoy get hurt and Blount gets benched. In the end, he went all in to win a championship (didn't happen unfortunately for him). I took a chance by making a division foe stronger, but also ended up with good compensation.

Bottom line in any league format, I would trade with anyone as long as I feel it would make my team stronger.

The only time I would consider not making a trade with a division rival is when I have similar offers on the table to accept from multiple teams. In that instance, rivalry would be a small factor in my decision making process. You need to be fearless when making trades.

Thanks for the responses guys :)

He ended up declining, as expected, due to Vick's contract length.

I have no problem trading within my division, as long as it can benefit my team. Was just curious to know others responses :)

The obvious detail left out of this topic is the details of the trade. From what I've read on here, plenty are used to getting kinda lopsided deals and in that case, I whole heartedly agree that you should trade away as a definite win in a deal while dealing a losing end to a rival is fine. Also, there is no reference to who has the better team. If one is rebuilding or getting stronger, shall we say, while the rival is an annual division champ, that's a much different scenario than if it's you sitting on the throne and dealing to a lesser rival.

However, given that my league rarely sees lopsided deals or 'mistakes' as I like to call them, I would have to say that trading to a rival is ok, but I generally lean away from it or consider a tax on the deal (making it a win for me).
